At first sight there seems to bu inuy.
objections to our girls pursuing the study
of anatomy. It shocks our feeling§ to
think of a being, all light and love, 01
ploring, with eager fingers and keen
scalpel, the muscular intricacies of 11!C

who, like the widow Twankay, had not
possessed any beauty even in her youtl •
There would be some satisfaction, how
ever, in ‘getting.out' the trapezius of eta
Earl, and we can imagine the joy with
which a fair student would explore the
cerebellum of a Chancellor, or lay bare
the shapely gastrocnemii of a bishop.
But picture to yourelve, oh youth 5 en
loversof the period, how could yau pair

maiden who was conscious of the pleasing
effect of the sterno-cleiclo-mustoid nt3 tht

and charming (harem, what a fearful
epidemic of' iinaginery diseases would
break out among our gilded youths, and
what a fortune the little lady would malt
in a few years!
Looked at from 'a connubial point of
view, the idea et one's wife being an M.
D. is not very pleasant. Hero is a scene
that is enough to make a British husband
'squirm.' Dramatis persona: Husband
and Wife, M. D, Scene; the Conjugal
Couch. Time: 11.30 p. m, You lavo
just finished talkingerer the events 'f
the day wtth the earl- sposa, and youltrip
eventually settling of to sleep, when
there comes a ring at tbenightbell suspen-
ded over your devoted bead. You are an
affectionate husband, and you get up to
see who it is, the Doctor obierving quiet-
ly. 'If it's that baby of Pratee, tell them
to give it the rest of the powders and a
warna bath, and I'll see it in the more-
ing.'
'But isn't Pratt's baby -s -it's Mr,
Jinks took very bad in his inneads,' says
the menial, 'and he wante your wife to go
to him directly.'
Now this is really too bad. Jinks 18
gay bachelor whom you detest, and why
should your wife have to run off to him at
the dead of night, when her prep:. place
is obviously beside you? If you have a
proper control -over the M. D., and have
learned some of the tricks of' the trade,
you will suggest that Jinks be quieted
with ‘Pilopiiij statim suasend.,' or a
Cathart.,' as the case may be,
and 'the Doctor will call around in the
morning.' If the said Doctor goes, there,
you are left starving in bed, and anathe.
matising Jinks and your wife's profession.
You will be very lucky too, if, when yo1
have married au -active and enthusiastic
praetitoilier, you don't figurees thecorpos
vile upon whiehshe can play with impunity
any number of pharmaceutical pranks.
When a new drug miles into fashion, it
will be very convenient for her to have
husband at home who can test the efficacy
of it. and no affectionate man would °bled
to such trials in moderation.
Danger of Eating Green Fruit.
Acontemporarysays very wisely :—One
efthe greatest dangers te health whiehthe
authorities have to contend against in the
summer time is the green fruit busines.
Contend against it they de, as far as ad-
vice and learned. digests on the effects do
too hearty meal of unripe apples are con-
cerned, but further than this they do not
go to protect thouuwary. It is a well-
known feet, that every diarrho3a or cholera
merbus breaks out almost like an epide-
mic in the city at the same time, end it
has been noticed that the diseaees first
begin to rage with more than usualaviolenee
exactly at the period when gre ;a fruit
is first brought to the '-market. AS a
general thing, the purchasers of green
fruit are children, who do not know any
better than to stuff themselves with what
ever new article in the way of fruit the
merchants at the stands lay their hands
on, and parents. should consequently take
warning and put the little ones on their
guard against the unwholesome stuff.
Just now apples seem to be the only green
fruit that has made its appearance to any
great extent: although, in their eager-
ness to be first in the field and make a
few pennies extra profit by taking advan-
tage of the popular hankering after the
latest productions from the orchards,
some of the apple men have got in a stock
of very email peaches, the eating ()luny of'
which is quite enough to endangera man's
lite, The apples that are being sold are
all unripe, and those that allow their
love for fruit to get the better of them
may have occasion before the summer is
ever to rue their impudence, It will be
quite time enough several weeks hence to
indulge in 'fresh' fruit. Tho stook of
some of the dealers is so unripe that it is
downright murder for them to offer it for
sale for eating purposes.
WHAT TO DRIK.- A monsiblo article in
the last Phrenological Journal oit the sub-
ject of "What to ..Drink," contains the fol-
lewing in regard to hot weather drinks
The warm season, now upon us will increase
our thirst. Water, pure water, will be toe
thin for these who chow or smoke tobacco,
and they will want something they can
"taste "--something pungent, !something
bitter, tingling, biting. They find what
they crave in whikey, with fusil oil in it,
or other similar drinks. But to an appe-
tite that is healthy, nothing is mere grate-
ful or reviving, when thirsty, than water.
But even this should be 'steed temperately,
and in moderation. Many drink too much.,
Nor should it be drunk on a full stomach.
The less we drink of tea, coffee or water
with our meibi the better. Very hot
drinks are bad. We are liable te take cold
on going out after partaking of hot drinks.
Pure soft water is the 'best. Hard limo
water is much used, and many prefer ;
but no horse, ox, smother animal will drink
it when they can get soft water. For the
t physiological effects of hard and soft water
