This is a special meeting on Retarded Children, with Mrs. Ross Gordon and Mrs. John Kerr in charge. The roll call will be answered by nam- ing a way you can be of assist- ance to a retarded or handicap- ped person or their parents., The motto, "What we are is God's gift to us; what we make of ourselves is our gift to God" will be given, and there will also be a panel discussion. Whyte, who discussed how to get along with ourselves and others. She stress- ed the necessity of a quiet period each day. Mrs, Riley thanked the speaker. The meeting closed by repeating the Mizpah benediction. Mrs. Stewart and Mrs. Eaton assisted the hostess in serving lunch. GROUP- II, NORTHSIDE W.A. Mrs. Frank Storey was hostess to Group 11 of the W.A. of North- side United Church Tuesday eve- ning, with 19 present. Mrs. Bruce Walters presided throughout the meeting. Scripture lesson was tak- en from the 24th chapter of Luke and was read by Mrs. W. Leem- ing. followed by the Lord's Prayer HARLOCK The regular meeting of Burns' Church W.M.S. and W.A, was held Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Geo. Watt. The meeting was in charge of Mrs. Wesley Roe. There was a good attendance of members, along with several visi- tors. A solo was given by Dianne Roe and she was accompanied on the piano by Nancy Rakewich. The regular meeting of Burns- Londesboro Y.P.U. wasSun- day evening in the Londes`ioro Church with about 25 members present. The sing -song was led by Jane McCool with Marguerite Ly- on at the piano. The Stewardship and Training Commission was in charge of worship. Hymn 99, "I Would Be True," was sung. The prayer was given •by Marguerite Lyon. Ken Gaunt read a story, and Bonnie Thomas took up the col: lection. Faye Gaunt read the scrip- ture. Mr. White pronounced the benediction. Harry Lear, president. was in charge of business. Doug Riley was nominated secretary in the absence of the regular secre- tary, Beverley Wright. A short skit was presented by Jane McCool and Marguerite Lyon. Recreation was in charge of Ken Scott and Doug Riley. Lunch was served and the meeting closed with "Taps." Y.PS. Meet The Young People met Sunday evening at the home of Marjorie and John Hoggarth. The meeting opened with a sing -song and hymn. Ronny Jewitt, convener of the Stewardship and Training, gave the topic entitled, "Keep My Com- mandments.' Lawrence Taylor read the scripture and Marjorie -Hoggarth led in prayer. Mrs. W. L. Whyte led in the discussion. Jan- ice Jewitt was in charge of re- creation. Charles. MacGregor read a suitable address and presented a gift of jewellery to Mrs. Whyte for her untiring and helpful ser- vice given the Young People dur- ing the year. Mrs. Whyte very fit- tingly replied and thanked the young people for their thoughtful- ness. Lunch was served and the society adjourned until the fall. GROUP HI, NORTHSIDE WA. . Group III of Northside United Church W.A. spent a very enjoy- able evening at the cottage of Mrs. E. C. Chamberlain at Bayfield Tuesday evening. Everyone en- joyed a delicious pot -luck supper at 6:30. At 8:30 Mrs. 13. F. Chris- tie opened the meeting by reading a poem entitled, "Faithfulness." Hymn 263 was sung and the Lord's Prayer repeated in unison. Nine- teen members answered the roll call by naming their favorite flower. Mrs. A. McNichol presided for the devotional part and read a poem, "There is No Unbelief." A hymn was sung and Psalm 101 was read by Mrs. McNichol, followed by prayer by Mrs, M. Berger. Mrs. McNichol gave an amusing read- ing entitled, "In a- Hurry." Con- tests were enjoyed and the meet- ing closed with the Mizpah bene- diction. GROUP IV, NORTHSIDE! WA.' The regular meeting of Group IV of the W.A. of Northside Unit- ed Church was held at the home of Mrs. Alex Wright with 29 mem- bers and one visitor present. The meeting opened with a prayer and scripture lesson taken from the 27th Psalm by Miss Hoh Neil Bell led in singing several hymns, Mrs, Jean pill read a poeh, "The Making of Friends," Mrs. Pollard gave a most enjoy- able talk on "Friendship." The Sunshine bags were collect- ed. Mrs. Helmer Snell, president of the General W.A., was welcom- ed to the group by Mrs. A. Riley. Mrs. Snell told the group that plans were being made to have Rev. Mr. Joyee come to Seaforth for a week in the fall. His theme will be, "The Answer is God" The General W.A. plan to cater to the Huron County Education As- sociation the latter part of Octo- ber. Mrs. Snell gave a delightful Scotch reading. Plans are being made to have a bake sale on June 21. A deli- cious lunch was served by Mrs. Riley and Mrs. J. Bach. Mrs. Mar- shall thanked Mrs. Wright for the use of her home. WINTHROP Doug Keys, Mac Bolton and John McGavin, third -year students at the Ontario Agricultural College, Guelph, received word on Tuesday that they had successfully passed their examinations. Mr. Keys, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Keys, has been employed for the summer months with the Department of Agriculture, Clin- ton. Road accounts amounting to. $7,059.20 and general accounts to- tailing $5,888.77 were ordered paid. The 1956 auditors' report was re- ceived and accepted, showing a surplus for 1,956 of $3,609.83 and an accumulated surplus of $0,645.35. Refunding by-laws were passed on the Dietz, Gaffney and Liffe drains. The report on the Parrott Munici- pal Drain was read and adopted, and a by-law•will be prepared with five-year 5 per cent debentures. The report on the Gook Drain was read and council was served with a petition, signed by a- major ity of ratepayers on the South Branch, to have it made into a municipal drain. The report will be held up to let Engineer R. M. Dawson have this included. Tenders are to be called for the July meeting to have the exterior of the Township Hall painted. The 1957 mill rate was set at 9 mills for residential and farm lands and 11.2 mills for commercial. Other mill rates are: county, 12; Mitchell and District High School, 8; gen- eral school, 2.6. Each school sec- tion has a different rate. Notice, was received to have the Centre Branch of the Northwest Drain put in proper repair, and the Clerk was instructed to notify James A. Howes, O.L.S., to examine same and report back to council. H. Hillebrecht reported to coun- cil that there was an obstruction in the Brodhagen Municipal Drain and it was felt the job was so small that it would be done with- out an engineer's report and pro rated back to the ratepayers af- fected.
