Contributions totalling approxi-
mately $450, were received when
the Mayor's Committee for Hun-
garian relief sponsored a one-
night blitz Thursday night. The
money. will be used to provide for
day-to-day expenses involved in
providing for refugees who come
to the Seaforth district. Contribu-
tions are continuing to come in.
according to Miss Luella Burke,
committee secretary. '
In the meantime the committee
has received generous offers of
accommodation and clothing. As
offers are received they are re-
cordedi and the donors are called
on as requirements arse.
Already •ereral unfurnished
homes and apartments have been
made available. and it is to furn-
ish these that the committee is
particularly interested in rece-:'-
ing'offers of household furnishings
and canned goods.
Miss Burke. in discussing re-
quirements. emphasized that in
almost every case, refugees on ar-
rival are penniless and in need of
clothing and household effects.
Mayor McMaster. who heads the
committee. said an additional
group is expected shortly. and. will
include couples and single women,

their Christmas concert on Tues-
day evening, Dec. 18. Mrs. Robert
Graham assisted at the piano for
the singing. Mrs. Clair Deichert.

Some 40 pupils took part, so it
really takes some training from
their teacher, Santa Claus arriv-
ed and distributed the many gifts
and packs to the children at the
close. The school was packed to
the doors.
Gerald Holland, of Dublin, was
honored in London when recently
at a gathering of Greatwest Life
Assurance Company, Mr. Holland
headed the London branch in sales
in 1956, having sold insurance to-
talling more than $500,000.00.

Carmel Church, Hensall. lovely
with attractive Christmas decora-

held Wednesday in the schoolroom
of St.. James' Separate School at
8 p.m. Dr. M. . Stapleton was
named chairman for the meeting.

payers' meeting were read and
adopted. ' Treasurer, Leon Bannon
read his report, which indicated a
substantial balance would be re-
alized at the end of the year. The
main expenditures were salaries,

expenditures by the end of the
year will be approximately $11,-

Christmas Meeting
The regular meeting of the Sea -
forth Women's Institute was held
in the Community Centre Tuesday
evening. The meeting opened With
words of welcome from the presi-
dent. Mrs. Gordon McKenzie. fol-
lowed by the Institute Ode, Mary
Stewart Collect and the Lord's
Prayer in unison. Roll call was
answered by the men, "Where
they first met their wife." Min-
utes of the last meeting were read
and adopted.
There is to be a short course on
"Salads." held in. Seaforth on
April 11. Donations were receiv-
ed for the Children's Aid Shelter
in Goderich.
The meeting was taken over by
Mrs. James Keys. A number of
carols were sung, led by Mrs.
Ross Gordon. Humorous readings
were given by Mrs. R. J. Doig and
Mrs, Wilfred Coleman. Solos were
sung by Mrs. Ross Gordon and Er.
lin Whitmore. and Mrs. Cameron
favored with a piano instrumen-
tal. Mrs, Orville Storey entertain-
ed with step -dancing.
The meeting closed with "0
Canada," and a delicious lunch
was served.
Sunday evening for the annual
Christmas concert, presented by
the Sunday School. Rev. Donald
MacDonald was chairman.
The program included the open-
ing exercissbs; Rev. MacDonald,
chairman's remarks; selections by
Mrs, Lloyd Mousseau's class; num-
ber by the choir; selection, Mrs.
Brown's class; recitation, Cheryl
Little; junior chorus, "Away in a
Manger"; recitation,. "The Birth
of Christ," Mrs. Hoy's class; chor-
us by the intermediate girls; car-
ols and . a pageant, "0 Come, Let
Us Adore Him."
At the conclusion of the benedic-
tion .the children proceeded to the
church schoolroom, where treats
and gifts were handed out. Mrs.
John Soldan and Mrs. Robert
Madge were responsible for the
church decorations.
FIRST PRESBYTERIAN
The annual concert of First
Presbyterian Church School was
held in the church school room
'Friday night. and was well attend-
ed.
All who were present shared in
the carol singing. Tribute was
paid to the faithful work of the
teachers through the year. and a
brief program was presented by
the members of the Junior and
Senior Church Schools.

week of the appointment of Don -1
ald H. Scott. as full-time assistant
crown attorney in Welland Coun-
ty, Mr. Scott. the son of Mrs. H.
R. Scott, Seaforth. practices law
in Niagara Falls.
Commenting on the appointment,
the Niagara Falls Evening Review
says:

Mr. Scott. 33. a partner in the
firm of Logan and Scott, will as-
sume the newly -created post on
January 1, 1957. He will relinquish'
his partnership in the local firm.
Mr. Scott is the first lawyer from
this city to receive such ad ap-
pointment and is believed to be
the youngest in the province. He
will work under the direction of
Crown Attorney Tobias F. Fore-
stell, 'Q.C., 'of Welland. Two 'part-
time assistant crown attorneys,
Gerald Nash and Beverly Davies,
will retire at the end of the year.
The appointment is indicative of
the increasing workload of the
county's judicial authorities, Mr,
Jolley said. There are two judg-
es—County Judge Harold E. Ful-
ler and Judge Franklin M. Grif-
fiths—and two magistrates—John-
stone L. Roberts and George Street
—in the county. In addition, Magi-
strate Harley Hallett, of St. Cath-
arines, presides over some courts
in Welland County.
An order -in -council formally ap-
proving the appointment was sign-
ed in Toronto by Lieutenant -Gov-
ernor Louis Breithaupt.
Reached by telephone, Attorney -
General Kelso Roberts expressed
his pleasure in Mr. Scott's ap-
pointment. "I consider this a very
good appointment, and from all ac-
counts of Mr. Scott'S ability and
capacities we can caveat a high.

years and has been active in com-
munity affairs. He is a director of
the Niagara Falls Curling Club
Ltd., a director of the Greater

The story of the Nativity was
depicted, all the pupils taking part
in it. This was followed by a Rose
Drill, relating the story of "The
First Christmas Rose."
Scott attended Seaforth Public
School, Seaforth Collegiate, and
from 1939 to 1941 worked for the
Stratford Beacon -Herald as a re-
porter.
He enlisted in the R.C.A,F• in
1941 and served in England for
two years as a navigator with
Number 410 Squadron before be-
ing discharged in September, 1945.
Mr. Scott entered Trinity Col-
lege, University of Toronto, iii Oc-
tober, 1945, and graduated in 1949
with a Bachelor of Arts Degree.
While at Varsity, he was news edi-
tor of the daily campus newspa-
per, "The Varsity," and president
of Psi Upsilon Fraternity and the
Inter -Fraternity Council.
Mr. Scott entered Osgood Hall
in 1948 and graduated in 1951. He
practiced with C. L. Dublin, Q,C.,
of the Toronto law firm of Kimber
and Dublin and in 1952 opened his
own practice in Fort Erie.
He came to this city in 1953
when he joined the law firm of
Logan and Logan, which was
changed to Logan and Scott in
1954, and has practiced as a part-
ner in that firm.
In Fort Erie, Mr. Scott wtas vice-
