MERIAM CHARTERS
A quiet but pretty spring wed-
ding was solemnized at First
Presbyterian Church, Seaforth, on
Saturday afternoon, when Lois Is-
abel Charters became the bride of
Mr. WilIiarn James Meriam. The
bride is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Charters, Seaforth,
while the groom is a son of Mr.
and Mrs. Roy Meriam, of Gode-
rich.
For the ceremony performed by
Rev. D. Glenn Campbell, the bride
chose a street -length pink flower-
ed nylon with white accessories,
and carried a nosegay of white
carnations. She was attended by
her sister, Miss Joan Charters,
who wore . a street -length dress of
turquoise crystalette with white
accessories, and carried a bouquet
of yellow carnations.
The grodm was attended by his
brother, Mr. John Meriam, of God-
erich,
Following the ceremony, a re-
ception was held at the horn of
the bride's parents for the „Mame`ddii
ate families, when a luncheon was
served by Miss Marion Dick and
Miss Carol Glew. Following a
wedding trip to Windsor and points
east. Mr. and Mrs. • Meriam will
reside in Goderich.
Prior to her wedding the bride
was the guest of honor at a mis-
cellaneous shower arranged by
her friends and neighbors, 'held at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sid Pull-
man. About thirty-five were in
attendance.
During the evening a bride's
book was prepared and gataies and
contests enjoyed. An address, was
read by Miss Carol Glew and the
guest of honor was presented with
many Iovely and useful gifts.
Lunch was served by Mrs. John
Miller and Mrs. Helen Glew.
Friends at the London Life also
honored Mrs. Meriam prior to her
marriage. when she was the re-
cipient of a number of gifts.
Mr. Leo Stephenson, who has
been seriously ill . in Scott Mem-
orial Hospital, was able to return
to his home this week.
Miss Grace Krauter, of Toronto,
spent the weekend with friends in
town.

Will Attend Course
Mr. D_ S. Lawless, Norfolk pub-
lic school inspector, is one of 70
educationalists from Canada's ten
provinces meeting in Edmonton
for three weeks, which began May
14, to study problems of education-
al leadership in local communi-
ties. He has been selected a mem-
ber of a short course for school
superintendents and inspectors,
English and French speaking
alike, offered by the Canadian Ed-
ucation Association in conjunction
with the Faculty of Education at
the. University of Alberta. Mr.
Lawless was a former teacher at
Walton Public School and is
married to the former Dorothy
Turnhell. daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Wilbur Turnbull.
The Canadian Girls in Training
end the Mission Band held a meet-
ing in Blyth United Church Thurs-
day evening for the surrounding
district. The Walton C.G.I.T. group
were in charge of the devotion.al

The 17th of Grey and Boundary
Group of the W.M.S. met at the
home of Mrs. Roy Bennett on
Thursday afternoon, May 17, with
16 members and one visitor pres-
ent. Mrs. Harvey Craig. the presi-
dent, opened the meeting with one
verse of Hymn 358. followed by
the Lord's Prayer in unison. Mrs.
Wm. Coutts read the scripture
from Exodus 2:8-9. The president
read a very impressive -story in
regards to Mother's Day. A poem
entitled, "Home and Mother," was
read by Mrs. J. Clarke, Mrs. C.
Hoegy read the minutes 'of the
previous meeting. Mrs. C. ' Ritchie
gay, the W.A, report and Mrs. W.
Coutts reported on the W.M.S.
work. Two 'quilts were bound at
this meeting. The next meeting
will be held at the home of Mrs.
Thos. Williamson and Mrs, Roy
Williamson. The meeting closed
by singing the last verse of Hymn
662 and all repeating the benedic-
tion. Lunch was served by the hos-
tess, assisted by four other mem-
bers: Mrs. H. Armstrong, Mrs,
Martin Baan, Mrs. J: Bruce and
Mrs. D. Armstrong.
W:M.S. Group Meets
The May meeting of the Walton
W.M.S. group was held in the
schoolroom of the church Wednes-
day evening with 29 members and
one visitor 'in attendance. The
president, Mrs. Torrance Dundas,
opened the meeting with Hymn

Me Go," followed with the Lord's
Prayer repeated in unison. The
