"ORTHWIHILE PROGRAM
The capacity audience which saw
-.g Club members of Huron County
mored on the occasion of the annual
4-H Achievement Night at Exeter
last week could not help but realize
the contribution which the 4-H pro-
gram is making to a better commun-
ity.
Basically the purposes and ob-
jectives of 4-H Club Work are the
same as those of extension work for
adults. Both are concerned with
making rural life more attractive and
influencing farm people to adopt im-
proved practices. Thus is assured a
better citizen—one more imbued with
kis responsibility as a member of the
community in which he lives.
Four-H Club Work helps rural
youth:
(1) ,To develop pride in ownership.
(2) To accept and discharge re-
oponsibility.
(3) To develop a scientific attitude
towards the farm and home.
(4) To develop talents for greater
usefuinesS,
(5) To redo their fullest develop-
ment as Canadian citizens.
(6) To create better homes for
better living and to unite parents and
young people in a common interest.
That the- programe in Huron is
meeting with success was apparent
from the manner in which the more
than 390 boys and girls from various
points in the Countyconducted.them-
selves.
Responsibility for the progranl
rests with the Huron Leaders' Club
and upon the agricultural representa-
tives. The community, who in the
end benefits, owes much to President
Bob Campbell and those in the Club
who give so fully of their time as a
contribution to better citizens, and to
the agricultural representatives,
Gerry Montgomery and Harold Bak-
er, for their planning and effort.
JUDGE FINGLAND
The, appointment last week of
Frank Fingland, Q.C., of Clinton, as
Huron County Court Judge, recog-
nizes Mr. Fingland's long and exten-
sive legal experience and his stand-
ing in the community he has served.
The appointment follows the vac -
any created by the tragic death of
Judge T. M. Costello a few weeks
ago.
A native of Huron, Judge Fingland
graduated from Osgoode Hall follow-
ing overseas service in the First
War. During the years he has prac-
tised in Clinton, he has taken an ac-
tive and leading part not only in
the affairs of that community, but of
the County as a whole.
There will be general expressions
of good will towards Judge Fingland
as he assumes his new office. Inher-
ent in these expressions will be the
wish for a long and successful career
on the benc'fl.

A convention of the black-
smiths of Zurich and surround-
ing towns was held at Zurich
on Thanksgiving Day. Grand
Bend, Corbett, Dashwood and
a number of other places were
represented. The aim of the
convention was to arrange a
more satisfactory scale of prices
to be charged for horse shoe-
ing. So far all have agreed to
the scale, but two or three, and
there the matter rests.
One night recently some
sweet -toothed but souled indi-

has offered a reward of $50.00
for the conviction of the thief.
