Repres- enting the Lord Bishop of Hur- on, the Venerable Archdeacon F. G. Hardy, of Lambton, rec- tor of St. George's Church, Sar - ,aria, conducted the service. • Assisting at the service were the Rev. R. M. Bulteel, Clinton; 'the Rev. Norman Ellis, Brus- sels; the Rev. Ott the iaee of it this would seem to have been a pretty adequate insur- ance policy. But Loki, Balder's deadly enemy, was shrewd en- ough to read between the lines; and he knew about mistletoe. In Loki's cunning logic this little• green parasite sprang not f6rem earth or water or fire or air, Exeter; the Rev. G. G. Stone, Point Edward, and the Rural Dean of Huron, the Rev. H. L. Parker, Wingham. Mr. Parker preached t e sermon. but from the limbs of the giant oa . So be tipped a spear with mistletoe and slew Balder. But Balder's mother, Freyja, was the goddess o love, and she wept over the fateful mistletoe. Her pearly teras -dropped upon its leaves like clusters of white berries, and those tears of love brought Balder back ,to life. All this happened a long time ago; if indeed it ever happened at all, and it would not be sur- prising if Freyja!smagic tear drops have, in the. Intervening years, lost some of their poten- cy. These men and women may tell you that of course the mis- tletoe is really nothing more than a pretty decoration, and that the story of Balder, whom love brought back from death, is simply= an old wives' tale. But there it hangs; a sprig of pale parasitical leaves, sprinkled with Freyja's pearly teardrops. And even" if these teardrops are less potent than they were in the days of.
