child a ride when the machine
struck a ,bpmp, the jolt. throwing
the child off. His, parents rushed
him to the office of Dr, J. C. God-
dard, but he was pronounced dead
upon arrival. He was an only
child. His mother is the former
Wilma Borland, of Thames Road.
He was a grandson of Mrs. Robt.
Munn. Private funeral services
were held from his home Saturday
afternoon, August 5, at 2 p.m., with
Rev. W. J. Rogers, of Hensel].
United Church, in charge. Rev.
Wm. Mair, of Thames Road,
preached the memorial sermon. In-
terment was in Exeter cemetery.
The bearers were Gordon and Don
Munn and Jack and Bert Borland.
The floral tributes were many and
beautiful.
Mrs. J. • A. Spellman Passes
This community was saddened
on Friday morning last on learning
of the death of Mrs. J. A. Spell-
man, the former Elva Bolton, of
Kitchener. MTS. Spellman- , had
been in poor health for the past
two years and 'had been critically'
ill in St. Joseph's Hospital, Lon-
don, and St. Mary's Hospital, Kit -

Where she llad spent the past
month. Death came suddenly. She
suffered a stroke Thursday after-
noon and passed away early Fri-
day morning in St. Mary's Hospi-
tal, Kitchener. Mrs. Spellman was
born in Hibbert Township in 1903,
the eldest daughter of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Gordon Bolton, She re-
ceived her early education at S.S.
No. 10, Usborne. She was a gradu-
ate of ;Seaforth ,Collegiate Insti-
tute and Stratford Normal School,
and taught school at No. 7, Hib,
bert, and for some years in Kit-
chener.

of sport as a student, and later as
a trainer. For some years she
was supervisor of playgrounds for
the Kitchener schools, and for a
number of years had served as, an
executive for the Kitchener -Water-
loo Skating Club. She was active,
in all of her church activities and
was a Past Regent for the Tommy
Atkins Chapter, I.O.D.E. Deceas-
ed will be remembered by those
who knew her for the generous
co -operations she gave to all ac-
tivities of the communities in
which she lived. She had a dyn-
amic gift of personality which
won her many true and lasting
friendships. It was from her
charitable acts of hospitality that
she derived her greatest joy. In
1933 she married Dr. J. A. Spell-
man, of Kitchener, who survives
her, with her four youlpg daugh-
ters: Carolyn, Helen, Joan and
Connie. Five sisters survive:
(Victoria) Mrs. John Soldan, Zur-
ich; (Doris) Mrs. Gordon ,Clemas,
London; (Norma) Mrs. Norma
Parke, London; (Alda) Mrs. Carl
Heppler, Waterloo; (Maude) Mrs.
Harry Hoffman, Dashwood. The
funeral took place Monday morn-
ing in Kitchener from the Ratz and

Evans, will reside in Chatham on their return from a honeymoon to
Niagara Falls, Buffalo and Muskoka. The bride is the eldest Baugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Evans, Dublin, and the bridegroom is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Cleary, Seaforth.

whose remarriage to Mr. James P.
Krauskopf, Dublin, is an event of

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Flanagan. Ap-
proximately forty young ladies at-
tended to extend good wishes to
the bride -elect. A congratulatory
address was read by Miss Mary E.
Murray. and presentation of a
gaily decorated basket of varied
gifts was made by Mrs. Louis J.
Looby, The guest of honor made
a suitable reply. Various games
were played and a quiz contest
was featured. A group of young
girls assisted the sponsors to
serve a dainty lunch.

'rhe August meeting of the Beth-
el W.A. and W.M.S. was held at
the home of Mrs. Stanley Hillen.
Mrs. Leonard Leeming presided
for the meeting. The theme for
the -meeting was "Jesus Christ,
Teacher and Lord." After the call
to worship, Hymn 41 was sung, fol-
lowed with the Scripture lesson
and Hymn 248 was read, respon-
sively. The hymn, "Fairest Lord
Jesus," from the Missionary
Monthly, -was sung; Norma Leem-
ing played a piano solo, after
which prayer was offered. Miss
Grace Bartja was guest speaker
for the meeting. She spoke on her
three-year training at Bible School
and of her call to give service on
foreign fields to the work of her
Master. She expects to go to
Ethopia in September. Mary Den-
nis sang a solo, "More ' About
Jesus," which was much appreci-
ated. The worship service closed
with prayer by Mrs. Leeming.
Mrs. Boyd conducted the W.A.
meeting. The minutes of the last
meeting were read and adopted
and roll call was answered by 13
members. 'The Committees were
arranged for the lawn social to be
held at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Stanley Hillen on August 17. The
meeting closed with Hymn 376 and
the benediction by Mrs. Boyd.
Lunch was served and a social
time enjoyed.

We are sorry to report that Miss
Josephine Stirling suffered a bad
fracture of her left. wrist when
she fell off a lawn seat while pick-
ing cherries.

Detroit, are guests at the Albion
Hotel. Mrs. Vair was formerly
Mrs. Mary Walwyn Thornton be-
fore her marriage three weeks
ago.
During the service in Trinity
Church on Sunday, Miss Hilda
King wenttforward to the Chancel
and read a petition to the rector,
requesting that he dedicate a
bishop's chair to the Glory of God
and in loving memory of Mr. and
Mrs, Thomas King and their
daughters, Lillian and Shirley, giv-
en by the King family.. The rec-
tor accepted and dedicated the
oak chair, which was followed by
special prayers. The Kings have
been associated with Trinity
Church since pioneer days, and the
bishop's chair is a .fitting me ner-
ial to this branch of the family+.
