marriage of Evelyn Lorraine,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Bell, Bayfield, to Mr. Beverly Ross -
well Beaton, Goderich, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Beverly Beaton, Gode-
rich, formerly of Seaforth. Rev.
Mr. Venner officiated. Miss Viola
Fraser, Clinton, the soloist, was
accompanied by Miss Betty Lou
Larsen, who played the bridal
music. Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a white bro-
caded satin gown with silk net
skirt. Her veil was of tulle illu-
sion veil, and she carried a shove"
bouquet of gladioli, carnations,
plumosa, and baby's breath. The
maid of honor, Miss Phyllis Lind-
say, and the bridesmaids, Miss
Marie Stirling and Miss Helen
Blair, all of Bayfleld, were wear-
ing taffeta frocks in fuschia, pale
yellow and pale blue shades, re-
spectively, and carried nosegays of
Tuber roses and Esther Reid dais-
ies in matching shades Their
short veils were held by flowered
headdresses. Mr. Geo. Heard, of
Bayfield, was best man, and Mr.
Jack Merriam, Goderich, and Mr.
William Green, Exeter, ushered.
At the reception at Little's Inn,
Bayfield, the bride's mother re-
ceived dressed in royal blue with
gray accessories. The bridegroom's
mother assisted in powder blue
with black accessories. The bride
changed to a powder blue suit with
black accessories for a wedding
trip to the United States. On their
return Mr. and Mrs. Beaton will
reside in Goderich.

Brother Dies in Toronto.—Mrs.
J. L. Smith, Seaforth, received
word of the death of her brother,
Charles Williams, at his home in
Toronto on Friday, August 12. The
funeral was held Monday after-
noon at 1 o'clock at the Frank Fos-
ter Funeral Chapel, Toronto, and
burial in Park Lawn cemetery. Mr.
Williams was a member of Stanley
Lodge No. 426, A.F. & A.M. He
is survived by his sister and his
wife, the former Isobel Watt.

Dancing Nightly
Dies in London.—Helen Venus,
three-year-old daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Venus, Goderich, and
formerly of Seaforth, died in St.
Joseph's Hospital., London, Tues-
day morning. The girl was remov-
ed to St. Joseph's Hospital a week
ago suffering with a hemorrhage
of the brain due to aneurysm or
enlargement of the brain arteries.
Surviving are her father, a veteran
of the Second World War, her
mother, a native of Edinburgh,
Scotland, and a two-year-old broth-
er, Bobby. The funeral service
was held at the Cranston funeral
home, Godericb. at 2 p.m. Thurs-
day, conducted by Rev. R. G. Mac-
Millan of Knox Presbyterian
Church. Interment was in Mait-
land cemetery.

Former Seaforth Teacher Passes.
—A, former principal of Seaforth
Collegiate Institute and a native
of Downie Township, George An-
gus Ballantyne, 56, died of a heart
attack at his Toronto home Fri-
day afternoon. Mr. Ballantyne,
who had suffered a previous heart
attack about 10 years ago, was ctit-
ting the lawn when he died sud-
denly. He had moved to Toronto
a -bout four 'years ago to head the
mathematics and -physics depart-
ment at Islington High School, and
was living at 68 Lyngrove Ave.
there. Mr. Ballantyne was born in
Downie Township and attended
Normal School in Stratford, as well
as taking his B.A. degree at the
University of Toronto. Previous to
taking a position in Toronto, he
taught school in Orillia ' and St.
Catharines. While living in Sea -
forth he attended First Preshyter-
en Church, His wife who survives
him, is the fernier Lila M. Barton,
also of Downie 'i"hWnship. Also
stirviving are one daughter, Jean,
at honte; Ma brothers, Titltimell, St.

Ori Wednesday morning about 8
o'clock the barn owned by Arnold
Dale, on No. 4 Highway, was coin-
pletely destroyed by lightning, to-
gether with his entire crop, eleven
pigs and a calf. Mr. Dale had just
arrived home from Clinton when
the barn was struck.
A tall cowhand) wearing a ten-
gallon hat was sauntering around
in a large department store, and
the salesgirl asked if she might
help him. He replied: "No, .ma'am,
I reckon not. I've never seen so

and Mrs. A. Cooper and Mr. La-
verne Skinner left Tuesday on a
trip to the North, through Algon-
quin Park.
Mr. and Mrs. Garnet Johns and
Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Skinner are
on a motor trip to the West.
The Elimville W.I, held their
meeting in the Township Hall on
Wednesday evening, August 10.
Mrs. Ken Johns had charge of the
meeting and business, and the roll
call was answered on "How to
make a new citizen welcome." The
programe on Citizenship• was in
charge of Mrs. Charles Stephen
and consisted of the motto, "May
we by some well -doing make this
a 'better place for others," by Mrs.
Warren Brock; a splendid address
by Mrs. Layton, of Exeter, on "Cit-
izenship." Mrs. Harold Bell dem-
onstrated the making of a ribbon
baby pillow and carriage cover.
Mrs. Chas. Stephen displayed a
Gloxinnia and read- an article on
how to grow Gloxinnias, also a
night blooming Cactus grown by
Mrs. Jackson Woods, was shown.
Mrs. Jack/ Delbridge, Reg.N., gave
a talk on "First Aid," and a duet
was sung by Anna Routly and Haz-
el Sparling. Mrs. Melville Hern
and group 'served a lovely lunch.
