Death ofSamuel de
- The
death oc>;urred at the home of Mr.
and Mrs, John l?tlilman; on Tues
day, of Samuel Jeffrey, in his 95th
year, following au illness of six
weeks. Mr, Jeffrey was bona. in
Mitchell in 1855 and spent his
younger clays in the M•id-Western
States, being a member of the army
training for the Fenian Raid. For
a nunnber of years he lived at Han-
nah, North Dakota, coming to Sea -
forth in, 1919. He was marriedto
Mrs. Turney iu 1926, and later to
Mrs. Pullman, who passed away in
1941, He is survived by a sister,
Mrs. Ray Rix, of Buffalo, and a
brother, William Jeffrey, Mitchell.
The 'funeral was held Thursday af-
ternoon froom the residence of Mr.
Pullman, with Rev. D. Glenn Camp-
bell officiating. Interment was in
Staffa cemetery. The pallbearers
were W. H. Golding, Frank Finne-
gan, Albert Fortune, Wallace Ross,
Peter McIver and Chad. Glew,
First Presbyterian Church. -1'0

Class; 11.00 a.m., "Throne of
Grace"; 7 p.m., "Wonders of

Death of Joseph Mere. — The
death occurred on Sunday of a well
known resident in the person. of
Joseph Mero, North Main St. Mr.
Mere had been i11 for the past five
years, but until lately was able
to be about the house. He was
well known for the fine garden
and well -kept surroundings of his
residence. Born in Drysdale, the
son of David Mero and, Matilda
Bedard, he was in his 87th year,
He was married in 1887 and went
to Goderich where he worked on
the railroad, later moving to Hui -
lett where he farmed for ten years
and moved to Seaforth 30 years
ago. He served as caretaker of the
bowling green for a number of
years. Mrs. Mero 'predeceased him
in 1940, but he is survived by a
family of four sons: Albert, of
Goderich; Alton,'of Kitchener, Ad-
am, of Huliett, and an adopted son,
John, of Egmondville, and five
daughters: Mrs. William Laumk,
,.aterloo; Mrs. John Klein, Pon-
tiac,
ontiac, Mich.; Mrs. Shaw Hamilton,
of Toronto; Mrs. F. Lflamoreaux,
Pontiac, and Mrs. Marie Hickey,
of town- Deceased was a member
of St. James' Catholic Church and
the Holy Name Society. The fun-
eral was held Wednesday morning
to St. James' Church, followed by
interment in St. James' 'cemetery.
The pallbearers were Michael Mur-
ray, J. P. Dorsey, J.' M. Eckert,
Jas. Pretty, Graham Kerr and Con
Eckert.

ding was solemnized by Rev.
Father. Villerot at St. Catherine's
Roman Catholic Church, Detroit,
when Mary Anne Cotter, daughter
of Mrs. J. A. Jacks, was united in
marriage to Charles Doyle. The
bride was gowned in white eyelet
batist with matching cap and
Spanish illusion veil, and carried•
a white prayer book topped by a
single orchid and showered by lil-
ies of the valley. Pat Cotter, her
sister, was maid of honor. Brides-
maid's were Mrs.. Geo. Jacks and
Miss Pat Doyle, all .dressed in
identical gowns of white with lace
picture hats and, baskets of flowers,
The groom's best man was Mr.
Gerald Jacks. Attendants were
Robert Dukes and Robert Dunn;
ushers, 'George and Donald Jacks.
Following the ceremony breakfast
was served at "Stockholme." The
reception in the evening at Han-
ney Inn was attended by two hun-
dred guests. The bride and groom
left for their boneymoon at Spring
Mill Inn, Southern Indiana, The
bride travelled in a two -toned
biege suit with matching hat and
brown accessories. Mrs. Doyle is

day, June 8, when they entertain-
ed the ladies from Constance and
Seaforth United Church societies.
Mrs. Russell Bolton presided. The
worship service was taken by Mrs.
Robert McClure and: Mrs. William
Church. The wards of welcome
were given by Mrs. Bolton. Mrs.
I;<ugill, of Constance, gave a read-
ing. Tile guest speaker was Mrs.
S. Brenton, of Londesboro, who
chose as her .subject, "Race and
Racial Relations." Mrs. A. CuthlTi,
of Seaforth Afternoon Auxiliary,
gave a reading on Christian Stew-
ardship. Mrs. Roy Lawson gave a
few short readings for the Even-
ing Auxiliary. Iris Byermann, of
Winthrop Mission Band, rendered
a solo, "How Do You Like To Go
Up in a Swing?" The words of
appreciation were given by Mrs.
James McClure. After the service
in the auditorium, everyone was in-
vited to the sohoolroom where a
.bazaar and social time was spent.
Mrs. Bettles closed the meeting
with prayer.
The Helping Hand Mission Band
of Cavan Church will meet in the
schoolroom of the church on Sat-
urday, June 25.

ance Co., London, where she has
been employed for several years.
Mrs. Earl Lawson held a trous-
seau tea on Wednesday afternoon
and evening in honor of her daugh-
ter, Doris, bride -elect of this week.
Mrs. Lawson and Miss Doria re-
ceived the guests, while little Mar;
ilyn Taylor and Muriel Dale assist-
ed. Miss Shirley Busby was in
charge of the register; Mrs. Vern

Mrs. Harold Meagher, recent new-

on Friday night. A large attend-

John Flannery. The bridegroom
gratefully responded , on behalf of

St. Mary's Anglican Church, Dub-
lin, marked its 70th anniversary' by
special services on Sunday after-

R. P. D. Hurford, D.D., Christ
Church, London, officiated, and St.
Thomas' Anglican Church choir,
Seaforth, assisted in the services.
Rev. Dr. Hurford addressed an un-
usually large congregation on the
subject of 'Loyalty." A splendid re-
presentation from Zion United
•Ghurch was also present.
Death of D. J. O'Reilly
A highly respected and life-long
resident of McKillop Township,
Dennis J. O'Reilly, died at St.
Joseph's Hospital, London, on Sat-
urday following •a heart ailment.
He was the son of John O'Reilly
and Mary Barry and was in his
72nd year. He was married in 1920
to Miss Kathleen McCaughey, of
Blyth, who predeceased him in
1945. He was a breeder of fine
horses which won regular prizes at
the local fairs, Deceased. was a
practical member of St. Columban
Church and of the Holy Name So-
ciety. He is .sigrvived by three bro-
thers, Louis and James O'Reilly,.
Hibbert Twp., and Albert O'Reilly,
Seaforth, also three sisters, Mrs.
Wm. Duff1- and Mrs. P. J. Johnson,
of McKillop, and Miss Theresa
O'Reilly, Hibbert. The funeral was
held at St. Columban Church on
Tuesday morning, Rev. W. E. Mor-
ris officiated at the Requiem High
Mass and Mrs, Vincent Lane pre-
sided at the organ. Numerous spir-
itual offerings were in evidence of
the esteem in which Mr. O'Reilly
was held. The pallbearers were
John L. Malone, Joseph Malone,
John Shea, Peter HicknelI, Mich-
ael Murray and Peter Maloney. In-
terment took place in St. Colum-•
ban cemetery.
