Fireside GrOup. Meets. -A meet-
ing of the Fireside Young People'e
Society of Elena Church was held
in the basement of the chtirele on
Sunday after the evening service.
The Meeting was opened by sing-
ing Hyran 552, verses 1, 5 and 6.
Gordon MaKindsey gave the lee -
son and D. G. Campbell led
in prayer. The minutes of the
lest 'meeting were read mid ap-
proved. Business was discussed,
and suggestions were made for a
Valentine party. Slides we re
shown on Formosa. Hymn 553,
verses 1 and 5, was sung. The
meeting was closed with the Miz-
ps:h benediction.
St. James C. W. L. Meets. -At
he regular meeting' of St. James'
sub -division of the C.W.L., held in
St. James' parish hall, the sum of
$35.00 was donated to the school
library. The meeting was inform-
ed that eighteen boxes had been
sente to shut-ins at ,Ohristmas by
the committee in charge, includ-
ing Miss Dunn, Mrs. .I, M. McMil-
lan and Miss Agnes Gaffney. Mrs.
Frank Devereaux, corresponding
secretary, read thank -you note.
The St. James' Chronicle, the
parish booklet, of which Miss Alice
Daly is. editor, proved to be very
interesting,, and many copies were

Marked the esteem in which elle
was held. For the past year else
had not been enjoying the best Of
health, undergoing a ro,4or operte-
tion in Stratford General Hoepital
in May, from which she, never fully
recovered. She was able to be
around, however, until two weeks
ago when she took seriously' ill,
and passed away at her late resi-
dence in ,Seaforth. Besides her
husband, ehe is survived by two
sons, Francis, age two, and Paul,
age eight months; also Mr. Joseph
Burke, a brother, and Mrs. John
A. Murphy, a sister, both of Hib-
bert Township, and two nephews,
Joe and Billy Murphy. A number
of aunts and uncles also survive.
The funeral was •held on Monday,

Nephew Dies in Owen Sound.-
The sudden death occurred in
Owen Sound on January 11 of Geo.
E. Connell, a well-known ,merch-
ant of that city. He was a nephew
of Mrs, George J. Connell, of Sea -
forth, and a cousin of Harold and
Roy Connell. Mr. Connell, who
was in his 57th yean• is survived
by a son, •Gerald, and a daughter,
Mrs. Archie Shute, and three sis-
ters, Mrs. Dick Soole, Mrs. Vor-
row and Mrs. Ed Agnew. His wife

day. Mrs. Roy Lawson, the presi-
dent, opened the meeting with a
poem and prayer. Rev. H. V.
• Workman installed the new mem-
bers for 1949. One new life mem-
ber was reported. Mrs. Keine
gave, a temperance reading,
"Drinking, An Illness." A splen-
did Watch Tower paper was given
by Mrs. W. Hay. Circle No 1,
with Mrs. D. Aikenhead as lead-
er, took charge of the program,
"Christian Citizens in Training."
Mrs. H. Lawrence read the Bible
readinge. Mrs. Lawson took the
study ot the life of Dr. Cheng. as-
sisted by Mrs. Annie Reid and
Miss A. Lawrence.. Hymn 215 was
read in unison as the closing
prayer.

Young Adult Group Meets. -The
January meeting of the Northside'
United Church Young Adults
Group was held in the church on
Tuesday. The prelude, "Day is
Dying in the West," was played
by Mrs. Workman, and Audrey
Stevens read the call to worship.
The hymn, "Creation's Lord." was
sung, followed by a duet by Janie
Moffat and Pat Savauge. After
the reading of the Scripture by
Ed. Silcox, Thelma Elgie read the
evening prayer. Mr. Workman's
message, "The Joy of Service,"
was enjoyed by all. .A candlelight
installation service was held, in
which the executive spoke their
vows of service and the members
of the group, in turn, lighted can-
dles to signify loyalty to their ex-
ecutive. Following a lengthy bust-
nees discussion, lunch was served.

Death of John S. Moore. - The
death took place at his residence.
East William Street, on Monday of
John S. Moore, following a week's
illness. .He was born in Logan
Township, and was in his 63rd
year. He was mafried to Vera
Williams, of Burford, who survives
him, together with one datighter,
Mrs. John Diehl, of Logan; also
one brother, Joseph Moore, of
Mitchell; two sisters, Mrs. Her-
man Williams., of Burford,. and Mrs.
Charles Carter, of Petaeky, Mich.,
and two grandchildren. Mr. Moore
was a farmer until 1942; when he
came to Seaforth to work in the
Boshart furniture faetory, and was
a member of St. Mary's Anglican
Church, Dublin. The funeral took
place on Thursday from his tate
residence at 2 p.m., with inter-
ment in Trinity Anglican ceme-
tery. Mitchell. The pallbearers
were: Leslie Moore, Frank Moore,
John Earle, F. Smale, James Hen-
derson and B. 13arker.

Trinity Anglican Church was held
in the church on, Monday evening.

the vestry clerk. Reports, were

factory . balance. Rev. LaVerne
