Mc- Cully, Brucefteld, 'announces the en- gagement of his daughter, Mary Grace, to Mr. Charles Ivan Wight - man, of Belgrave, son of Mr, George D. Wightman, of Kincardine, the mar- riage to take place early in June. Adult Group Meets. — The regular meeting of the Adult Fellowship Group was held Monday evening in Northside United Church. A reading by Thelma Elgle opened the meeting. "Breathe on Me, Breath of God," was sung, followed by the responsive read- ing from the Hymnary. Vera Mole led in prayer and Joyce Riley read the Scripture, Psalm 23. The min- utes of the previous meeting woce read and the roll call answered by your favorite flower. After a busi- nese discussion the hymn, "Unto the Hills" was sung. Miss Winnifred Savauge gave -a very interesting talk on weaving, illustrating with many samples of various types of weaving and demonstrating with 'two hand looms. The meeting closed with the Mizpah benediction and lunch was served. Death of Mrs. Catherine Gies. --The death occurred on Wednesday at the home c,f her son-in-law,*Allan Reid, of Catherine Geis, former'y of New- ton, Ont.. following a long illness, al though she had only been confined bed for two weeks. She was born at St. Clemens and lived at Newton be- fore corning to Seaforth 16 years ago. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Allan Reid, and one sister, Mrs, C. L. Moser, of Kitchener. Mrs. Gies was a member of the Roman Cath•:ic Church, also a member of the C.W.L. and League of the Sacred Heart. Gil- bert, B.A. Death of Mrs, Robert Archibald.— The death occurred on Wednesday of Lucy Lorena Hillen, widow of the late Robert Archibald, in her 77th ysa.r. Mrs. Archibald 'was taken to Scott Memorial Hospital four and a half years ago, following a severe stroke, and had been there ever since. She was born in McKillop, the third daughter of the late Mr, and Mrs. James Hillen, and was married in 1899 to Mr. Archibald, who predeceas- ed her in 1944. She was also pr :e - ceased by one daughter, Mrs. Charles Else, who passed away in 1930. Sur- viving are one brother, Mr. Cal -,du Hillen, of Mchiilop, and a sista; Mrs. James Kerr, of i2eaforth. Mrs. Archi- l-ald was a faithful, member of Nrrtb- side United Church and also a mem- ber of the WA, and W.M.S. The fun- eral will take place from the G. A. W-hituey---funeral chapel on Friday at 2 p.m.rt" with Rev. H. V. Workman of- ficiating. Interment will be in Malt - landbank cemetery. The pallbearers were R. McFarlane, Ed. Miller, Dr. Harburn, Jas. Meets.—Mission ny- meeting of Northside United Church was held in the Sunday School room on Thursday and opened With "Jesus, Thou Divine Companion," fol- lowed with prayer by the president, Mrs. Lawson. The treasurer's report was followed by a reading, "The Church's Claim on You," by Mrs. Fin- layson. The roll call was answered by twenty-one. and the Scripture, 1st Corinthians, chapter 13, from version which uses the word "Love," not "Charity," was read by Mrs. Storey. Fourteen calls were made to the sick and the collection was taken by Mrs. A. Reid. Prayer was given 'by Mrs. F. Finnigan. and Mrs. Aikenhead took the worship service; theme, "Each for all and all for each"; prayer; "Oh, Holy City," was read slowly in uni- son, and "They Call Me Strong," was read by Mrs. Wood, followed by •a reading by Mrs. H. The next meet- ing is to be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Lawson, Huron Road. me - Death of Mrs. J. Gladstone Mills.— The ,funeral of Mrs. Allie Gladys Mills, wife of J. Gladstone Mills, wbose death occurred at Parkwood Hospital, London', on Monday, May 10, after a lengthly illness, was held at Strathroy Thursday with services at 2.39 p.m. (D.S.T.). Mrs. Mills was born in Strathroy, a daughter of the late Charles Wesley Woodhall .and Alice Viola Ashwell, long time resi- dents of Strathroy, who moved to Michigan and later California. She was in her 60th year. Mrs. Mills was well known in Seaforth where her husband was manager of the Cana- dian Bank of Commerce for a number of years, prior to his retirement in 1939. The deceased was a Past Mat- ron and life membcr of the Order of the Eastern Star, and until illness prevented, active in the Ladies' Aid and Women's Missionary Society of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Besides ,her husband, Mrs. Mills is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Jean H. Glover, of I?oopestown, Ili„ and two sons, John G. Mills, of the General Theological Seminary, New York, and G- Franitlrn Mills, of ,the University of Western Ontario Medical School. She also leaves four brothers: Dr. Royden A. Perch fishing is exceptionally good from the piers and last week -end saw large crowds taking advantage of the good catches. On Sunday morning a large sea- plane was forced to land on the north side of the river owing to the dense fog. It was en route to Sudbury. Four men from ,Toledo, Dr. J. R. Rob- inson, Jack Hannis, Len _Barrett and T. Cooke, were aboard. They stayed n the village until the fog lifted and then continued on their trip north. Mr. and Mrs. Harold King, of Sar- nia. spent the week=ed with the Tat- ter's mother, Mrs. C. Parker. On their return they were accompanied by Mrs, Chris. ' Irwin - Sturgeon A very pretty wedding was per- formed in Trinity Anglican Church, Bayfield, Saturday afternoon when the marriage vows were spoken by Milvena Ruth, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willard. R. Sturgeon, of Bayfleld, and Robert Wesley, only son of Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Irwin, of Hul- lett Township. In the presence Of 50 guests the double ring ceremony was read by the Rev. LaVerne Morgan. Mrs. E. Wendorf, of Clinton, played the wedding music and Wm, Gould, of Clinton, sang "Through the Years" and "Because." The bride, given in marriage by het father, was lovely in a white satin gown, fashioned with a bateau neckline, lily point sleeves and, a peplum edged with lace and seed pearls, the flare skirt extending into a short cathedral train. Her shoulder - length veil was °aught with a bank of white satin. Her only ornament was a. pearl sunburst worn by the groom's mother at her wedding. She carried a cascade bouquet of pink Briarcliffe roses and Bouvardia. At- tending as maid of honor the bride's sister, Norma, wore a floor -length gown of yellow nylon taffeta with matching nylon embroidered head- ilress, and carried a Colonial bouquet of Golden Pernet roses and fern. Donna Anne, small elster of the bride, as junior bridesmaid, wore a. pale blue orgatsda dress with matching' embroid- ered headdress- and carried a basket of yellow daffodils.
