The regular meeting of the C.W.L.
was held with the president, Mrs.
Murphy, in the chair. The- meeting
opened with. prayer, and the minutes
as read were adopted. A letter con-
cerning C.W.L. bylaw was read and
a copy is to be sent for. The treas-
urer's report showed a balance of
$35.21. Arrangements were made for
a euchre and dance on January 21st.
The meeting closed with prayer.
Former Resident Dies in Windsor
Mrs. Mary E. Power, of 1341 Church
St., a teacher with the Windsor Sep-
arate Schools, and wife of Lawrence
Power, died in Hotel Dieu, Jan. 4th,
after a lengthly illness. Eldest daugh-
ter of the • late Mr. and Mrs. Frank J.
McQuaid, of McKillop Twp., she was
in her 44th year. She had- lived in
Amherstburg and Windsor for over
20 years. Besides her husband she is
survived by a daughter, Carol Ann,
and a son, Gerald, at home; three sis-
ters, Florence and Norah McQuaid, of
Stratford, and Mrs. Benson Hamilton„
of Whitby; three brothers, Frank of
Stratford, Thomas of Windsor, and
Jamesof McKillop. Mrs. Power was
a member of the C.W.L., Happy Death,.
Society and League of the Sacred
Heart of St. Clare's Church. The fun-
eral services were held to St. Clare's
Church from the family residence on
Jan 7, at 9 a m Rev Thos McQuaid,
S.F.M., sang the Requiem Mass. Rev..
Father J. J. White, the pastor of St.
Clare's, and Rev. Michael McSween,
S.F.M., were in the sanctuary. Burial
took place in Heavenl•y,, Rest Ceme-
tery with Rev. Fathers McQuaid and
McSween reciting prayers at the
grave. The pallbearers were William
Siemens, J. Sequin, L. Petroumlx, O.
Helfrich, C. O'Neil and P. Smyth.

The W.M.S. held their first meeting
of the year at the home of Mrs. Jahn
Sinclair on Wednesday afternoon with
a good attendance. Mrs. Harry Cald
well presided and opened the meeting
by singing Hymn 662. The minutas
and roll call were then taken with the
text word "Love." The Scripture les-
son was read by Mrs. Ernie Chip -
chase. Hymn 494 was sung and Mrs.
Chipchase then led in prayer. The
business followed and it was decided

W. A. Elects Officers
The W.A. held a short business
meeting at the conclusion of the W.
M. S. on Wednesday afternoon at
'which the ladies were told the treas-
urer had given the Managers $500.00
for .church expenses from their ac-
count of $1,010.00. It was decided to
use the remainder for necessary con-

niences in the church kitchen. Mrs.

gestions of articles for each month

The Woman's. Missionary Society of
the United Church meeting was held
in the schoolroom on Thursday and
opened with Mrs. E. Geiger in the
chair. Hymn, "Take My Life and Let
It .Be" was followed by all repeating
the Lord's Prayer in unison. The de-
votional was taken by Mrs. W. Car-
lisle reading the Scripture lesson, St.
Luke• 10:38-42. Miss Violet McCly-
mont read a paper on "Friendship"
and Mrs. Lammie led in prayer. The
roll was then called, 20 members be-
ing present. Mrs. Laird Mickle gave
a piano instrumental which was en-
joyed. The study book was given,
showing how the Word of God has
been made known to the nations
throughout the world for the Bible
has been written in 1,070 tongues and
thio ty million copies are being sold
every year. It was through the in-
fluence of a man and woman caring
for the poor, called Jerome, that there
are 'the hospitals of today in every
land wherever the Gospel is being
preached. "Day is Dying in the
West" was sung and Mrs. E. Geiger
closed with the benediction. At the
close there was a short meeting of
the W.A. to elect officers for 1948.
The officers of 1947 were all re-elect-
ed.

Miss Wilma Kyle has accepted a
position on the staff of the local Bell
Telephone Co.
