Mrs. -Lorne McBride,. well known in
Hensall and district, died Thursday,
Feb. 3rd, in the General Hospital,
Windsor, in her 39th year, following
an 'illness' erf six weeks, during which
time she had been a patient at •the
hospital., She was the former Myrtle
Armstrong, and was born on the Gosh-
en Line. -She was on the staff of the
Clinton public school ter a •number of
years until her marriage live years'
ago to Mr. McBride, who survives
her, together with one sister, Mrs.
Dave 'Kay, of Clinton,' and one bro-
ther, Jqhn Arni'strong, of the Goshen.
She is a daughter-in-law of Mr. and'
Mrs.- Robert McBride; of Kippen, and
a niece of Mr. and Mrs. -Charles
Stephenson, of Hensall. Funeral ser-
vices were held ' from- the 'United
Church, Clinton, on Saturday, Feb. 5,
at 2 p.m. Burial was made in Bay-
field . cemetery.

William Smale were hostesses at the
home of Mrs. William Bamale Monday

meeting of the Hensel) United Church,
Mission -Circle, -Miss Edna Saunder-
sock was in the chair, `With the sing-
ing of the theme, "God of Years that
Lie Behind i's,'' the meetiug calve to
order. ' list a Friend We Have -in
Jesus" 'Was sung, followed with the
devotional by Mrs. Byran Kyle. The'
hymn, "When Mothers'pf Salem" was
sung and the minutes read by the sec-
retary, Mrs. . Mary Buchanan. The
roll calm- was answered with "Ways
of gaining knowledge." The topic,
"The Light of Knowledge," was ably

M.C., son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E..Hog-
garth, of London, has been promoted
to that "rank overseas. As a q 1'edical
officer he wasp -charge of the R.C.
•A.F." hospital at' Ottawa until -WY:
1940, at which time he •went overseas
in charge of the 112th Air Squadron.
Last" September Major ,Hoggarth was
sent as a medical officer with a -large.
convoy to Africa. He is now serving
with the Eighth Army in Italy. Major
Bruce Hoggarth was born in Hensel],
his parents tieing former well known
Hensall resident until they took up
residence in London..
Mission Band Plans Party r°
The February meeting of the Sun-
beam Mission Band was held Sunday
afternoon, Feb...6th, at 2.30. p.m.: The
meeting opened by singing'`Iiynna.79'7,
followed by the motto and text. and
Mission Band prayer. The scripture
in two parts, Acts 10:35. and Psalm
67, was taken by Claudette Blowes
and Mrs. L. Baynham, Hymn 763,
was' sung; and roll call answered by
thirteen members ' and one visitor.
Plans were made to .have a Valentine
.party on Valentine's night and enter-
tain the Home -Helpers. Mrs. Logan
gave the story from the study book;
"Up and Down South America." Don-
ald Orr led in prayer- and Mrs., Orr
reada short story from the Glad, Tid-
ings. Two verses of "America the
Beautifulx' were gang and the meet-
ing closed with the Lord's Prayer in.

The W.M.S. pf the United Church
held their February meeting at the
home of Mrs. M. G. Drysdale Thurs-
day afternoon, Feb. 3rd, at 3 p.m. 'The
chair was taken by Mrs. C. Ballan-
tyne in the absence of the president,
Mrs. R. A. Brook, Following the op -
'ening ,hymn 'the Lord's Prayer was
repeated in unison and the Bible les-
son read by Mrs. 'Wilson' Carlile. At
the business session arrangements
were made to Hold the yearly birth-
day party in the church' basement on
Thursday afternoon,. March 16th. An
invitation was extended to the society
from Carmel, Presbyterian Church W.
M. S. to, join with them in•,the union
day of prayer to be held- in Carmel
Church Friday, Feb. 25th, -Miss Flor-
ence, Welsh favored with a pleasing
piano solo, and the topic, "The Light
of Knowledge," from the 'study book,
"For All of Life." was ably taken by
Miss M. Ellis.. The meeting closed
with a hymn and. benediction. There
were 24 present at the meeting, -

on Friday, night, Feb,. 4th. The fact
that a great many folks throughout
Hensall anddistrict gladly gave of
their sugar rations •made possible the
provision of delicious home-made
candy, consisting of chocolate and
divinity fulge. This • splendid wok
was accomplished by 1VMpsdemes Pfaff,
Sherritt, Welsh, Sangster, Beer, Nor
minton and Hess, While other kind
friends dontributed a lovely- variety
of cookies. In addition to these it-
ems, each• parcel, consisted of playing
cards, cribbage, bars; tobaccos and
cigarettes, gum, soup, milk, chocolate,
kleenex, shaving stick, an assortment•
of razor blades, tooth powder; hand-
kerchief, talcum powder, shoe.:Iaces,
nail brush: As formerly,one lady.'s•.
box was packed foie Corporal Helen
Bell. Besides t1 e_ candies, •cookies
and bars, it contained articles suit-
able for a lady in the services. This`
made a total number of 45. All ship-
ping charges were borne by the War.

tribution from their funds towards
covering the cost of the supplies. The
five recent a'r'rivals overseas_,•from
Hensall and who were sent boxes,
