THE CANADIAN BABY 'CHICK' ASSOC., Inc.
143 KING STREET EAST — HAMILTON, ONT.
To All Members:
This leiter is sent to all members' for the good of the Poultry
Industry, with...the best of intentions to save the chick lives and your
reputation.
Reports show trouble in raising chicks this season, It is more
or less widespread, and we fear is increasing in'spite of all well -
directed efforts.
We have thought until recently that it was the hard, long winter,
affecting the parent stock, but hatches were good and chick's were
just fine.
Experiments showed that milk fed to chicks removed the trouble.
Now the Feed Administrator admits this shortage of proteins, in
commercial "starters" which are rationed under Goverment rules,
for all so-called balanced rations.
- He states in the Egg and Market Report: "To supplement ex-
isting shortages of protein rich feeds, every effort must be made to
use Materials available on the farm—milk, waste meat, clovers, and
grasses."
This is very good, but three months late. We earnestly advocate
your telling all your chick customers to us•e• ail sour milk possible in
glass dr •agateware to help balance the Balanced Rations.
: Symptoms—Chicks do very well for week to ten days (until they.
have used- up the protein -rich yolk), them they get dumpy, Mick close
to brooder, do not eat much, have a pasty white discharge showing
an internal disturbance. Mot_ a sign of Pullorum. Intestines shrunk-
en, all organs apparently healthy', but starved.
Treatment—Feed plenty of milk Mir is best, in glass or aBart
e
ware, all they want. Milk. contains the missing protein . (riboflavin).
Some are feeding chopped hard-boiled eggs with good results, 'Also
feed clovers and alfalfa leaves.
'Running the, brooders five clop -ens warmer Seeing to help.'
Would suggest giving this 'Matter' full. publiCit i as soon as pos-
sible, whether yolir- edifelt5 have been affected or not.
'roars trtiy,
The Canadian lnaby Chick Asoo, Ind., A-. l a •Builth, SteAreas.
Father, as we kneel to worship
In Thy Holy Place,
We commend our Empire's purpose
To Thy grace.
God all -loving, for our soldiers
We before Thee plead,
And our airmen—keep beside them
In their need.
Jesus, Savlaurf, Heavenly pilot;
-Keep our sailors free
From the perils that beset them,
And near Thee.
Jesus Thou, the great physician,
Guardian over all,
Heal the wounded, give Thy life
To those who fall.
King of kings, and Lord Eternal,
Help us to defend,
Grant us peace and haste the time
When wars shall "end.
The offering was received by Mrs
