Died in Toronto.—The death accur-
red iu Toronto on Sunday, August ie,
of Mr. Alex Scott, formerly of Se t-
totth, son of the .late Alexander and
Anna Scott, in his 79th year. The
funeral took place from Cook's Fun-
eral Home, followed by interment in
Prospect Cemetery. The pallbearers
were Mr. George Stogdiil, Mr. Frank
Murray and Mr. Harris, of Toronto„
Mr. Alex lynn.7,ray and Mr. Will Mur-
ray, of Hamilton, and Mr. J. J. Cluif,
Seaforth, Besides his widow • he
leaves three brothers, Jack and Frank
of Chicago, and Will, Of London, and
two sister, Mrs. J. J. Cluff and Miss
Janet Scott, both of Seaforth. One
broth'er-, Mr. T. G. Scott, died just
two months ago.
McKillop W. M. S. Meets.—An in-
teres'ting' 'meeting' of the McKillop
branch of the W.M.S. was held at the
home of Mrs. William Hogg on the
afternoon of Thursday, August 15th.
After a time spent in sowing; the
p: eskdent presided for the devotional
hour. Hymn 212 wee sung for the
opening, after which the Scripture
lesson was read by Mrs. ,T. M. Goi'-
enlock; the president led in prayer.

of the last meeting were 'read and.
the roll call followed with fourteen
members responding. A real treat'
was tile talk given by Mrs. M. A. Reid
hearing'with 'hal the . ...hares -of the
w ark of the W.M.S. of the Presby-
terian Church. The Glad Tidings
Prayer was given, the offering receiv-
ed, and the closing exercises brought,
to a conclusion a, very interesting af-

was gowned in heavenly' blue with
white hat and accessories. Miss Jean
Linty, who w"as ner sister's brides-
maid, was gowned in coral crepe with
white hat and white accessories. Mr.
Wilson McCreath attended as'grooms-
ma'n. Immediately after the cere-

Death of William Deem,—A well-
known resident of this town passed
• away at his home on West William
Street on Tuesday as. he sat in his
chair at home. He had not.been very
well for the past month, but'was able
to be about the house. Mr. Deem was
born Hinton,. Somersetshire, Eng-
land, in 1856, and entered the Royal
Navy at the early age of 16 years.
He had also travelled around the
world twice and' was very interesting
to listen to as he • told ,stories of the
rnaiiy lands he had visited. He came
to Canada in 1904. Phe late Mr-.
Deem was twice married, the second
time, to Maude Adeline Turvill, in
1928, Who survives him together by
a grownup family of three sons, Har-
old, of Burlington; Sydney, of Strat-
ford., and Arthur, of Toronto, and' two
daughters, Miss Emily Deem and Mrs:
Wiltshire, of Leamington. Mr. Deem
was a member of St. Thomas' Angli-
eafn Church, from where the funeral
took place on Thursday afternoon,
August e2ecl, to Maitla.ndbank ceme-
tery, when Rev. R. P. D. Hurford of-
ficiated. The„ pallbearers were Mesers,,
Louis Hoegy, Thomas Jackson, R.
Leybourne, John Earle, R. G. Parte
and William. Smith'. Among these at-
tending ,the funeral were: Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Deem, Burlington; Mr.
and Mrs. Sydney Deem, Stratford ;
Miss b thii F Deem and Mr. Arthur
Deem, Toronto; Mrs. L, Wiltshire,

and Mrs., Thos. McKay, last Tuesday.
Mr. Vincent Eckert, of Toronto', is
spending Ms vacation• with his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Eckart.
• One of our oldest residents in the
person on Mrs,, John Eggert died last
Wednesday in her 92nd year. She
cane here with. 'her parents when a
-child, The. funeral took •-place- on
Friday to the, Evangelical Church and
the adjoining cemetery. She is sur-
vived by eight daugliters and one sonl
with whom, :she lived on, the home-
stead until seven months ago when
she went to live' with her daughter,
Mrs. Ed. Scherharth,, in Logan. The
bereft family have the' sympathy of
the community in this their hour of
glad, affliction.

Ryan - Flannery,
A very pretty wedding was solemn-
ized in St. Columban. Catholic Chiirch
at nine o'clbek on Saturday morning,
August 10th, when Alice Catherine,
only daughter of Mr. and Mns. Ter-
.rance Flannery, was united in mar-
riage to William Alp•honsesr Ryan, of
London, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs.
'Peter Ryan. Rev. Father O'Drowski
officiated', and Rev. J. L. O'Rourke,
of Tillsonburg, was present in,,,, the
sanctuary.'Punctually at nine o'clo,ck,
'the bride' entered the chyrcb to the
strains, of Mendelssohn's wedding
march, given in marriage by her
father, looked charming in a gown of
ivory satin. '—Her veil- of -embroidered
net was caught' with orange blossoms
'and she carried a white prayer book
with satin streamers. The bride was
attended 'by Miss Leota Ryan, sister
of «the' groom, who ' wore a simart
gown of pink sheer with white hat,
shoes and gloves to match. She car-
ried a nosegay of sweet peas,. and
roses. Th.e groom was ably assisted
by Mr. Cyril Flannery, of Sedforth, a
cousin of the bride. Th'e • wedding
music was played by ^the organist,
Mrs. Vincent Lane, assisted by, Mrs.
William Maloney, and Me. John Flan-
nery, who sang solos. The ushers
- were James Moore and Harold Ryan.
Following the Ceremony a Wedding
dingier was served at the Queenly
Hotel, Seaforth. A • reception was
held at the bride's home later. The
groom's gift to the bride was a beau-
tiful wrist watch; to the bridesmaid,
an emerald ring, 'and the groomsman,
