Last year we added about
14,000 miles of talking chan-

Associated apparatus --

been vastly extended and
improved.
And lower rates on calls to

S. S. LESSON FOR MARCH 30th
Lesson Topic -Review,
Lesson Passage -John 10:7-16.
Golden Text--Isa. 9:6.
January 5th -Childhood of Jesus.
-Matthew 2:10-23.
- Matthew 1:21.
The wise men of ;the east gave
themselves first and then their gifts
when they presented themselves be-
fore the child Jesus. They obeyed
the voice of GO and did not return to
tell Herod where the "King of the
Jews" was to be found. Knowing
what Herod purposed to do Joseph,
in obedience to a dream, took the child
and his mother to Egypt and stayed
there until after Herod's death.
Jan. 12th -Baptisms and Temptation.
- Matthew 3:13-4--4:11.
-Matthew 3:17.
Some thirty years elapsed between
last day's and to -day's lesson. Jesus
came down from His home in Galilee
bo hear His cousin John preach- He
presented himself for baptism after
which a voice from heaven proclaim-
ed 'him to be the San of God. He was
then led up into the wilderness where
after a 'season, of fasting the devil
tempted Him to use His power in
wrong ways. Being hungry the
tempted' suggested He turn stones an-
te ?Lad, 'testi he weed Him to throw
Himself down from a •pin'nacle of the
temple to see God interpose ariel save
Him and thirdly he tried to get Hini
to fall down and worship him in re-
turn for rulership over the kingdom
of this earth. All of these teinies- -
tions Jesus off -set by quotation.; from
Holy Scripture.
Jan. 19th -Jesus Berlins His Ministry.
-Mr.tthew 4:17-25.
-Matthew 4:17.
Some eight months after His temp-
tation Jesus left Judea for Galilee
and when walking one day along the
lake shore He spoke to some engaged
in their daily occupation of fishing
and mending nets. It was strange
words that fell from His lips but they
appealed to these men. He said,
'`Fallow Me and I will make you fish-
ers of men." They at once obeyed
and entered upon a new life. It was
a world full of ignorance, sickness,
disease and torment that they hence -,
Forth participated in with their new-
found Master.
Jan. 26th -Standards of the Kingdom.
-Matthew 5:3-9, 17-20, .27-29,
43-48.
-Matthew 5-8.
In these verses Christ teaches His
disciples the relationship between
earthly life and its reward. He
shows that unless there be purity of
heart there will be pollution of lips,
unless therre be rightness of heart
there will be hidden and baneful fire
in the spirit, and it will express itself
in contempt and malice and harshness
and cruelty.
Feb. 2nd -.Putting God's Kingdom
First.
-Matthew 6:5-13, 19-21, 31-33.
-Matthew 6:33.
In the first of these verses Jesus
cautioned His disciples against mean-
ingless praying and taught them how
to pray.
In 'the second passage Christ shows
that if the heart be right the whole
outgoing of the life will be right, but
if the heart be wrong then all the ac-
tions that make up the sum total of
the duties and exercises of life will
also be wrong.
In the last selection Jesus warns
His disciples against letting anxiety
or worry control the life.
Feb. 9th -Warnings and Promises.
-Matthew 7:12, 15-27.
-Matthew 7:19.
'Christ in this lesson teaches that
the core of life is "Love," which is
the fulfilment of the law and the
prophets. He also teaches that upon
"these sayings of mine" are the foun-
dation of the house built by those
who are wise.
Feb. 16th -Jesus Healing And Help-
ing.
- Matthew 9:1-13.
- Matthew 8:17.
In this lesson we need Jesus' power
to read thoughts and to silence criti •
cism as well as to heal the disease of
the body. The effect that ail this had
upon those round about was that they
marvelled and glorified God. Later
on in the lesson Jesus Called Matthew
to be his followed. Afterwards Jesus
was entertained by this new disciple
who also had some of his old compan-
ions present. Agalin Jesus was criti-
cized and again he silenced them.
"Fe6. 23rd -The Twelve Sent Forth.
-Matthew 9:35-10:8, 40-42.
-Matthew 9:37, 38.
When Jesus saw the multitude He
had compassion upon, them and pro-
ceeded to dedicate His disciples to
thole service. He endued them with
power' and sent them forth to preach
and to heel all manner of diseases.
He gave them a part in His own great
work and assured them that as He
was one with the Father they were
one with Him and his Father in the
redemption of the world.
March 2nd Jesus Teaching About
Himself.
-Matthew 11:2-6, 25-30a
e --Matthew 11:28.
Two of the disciples of John the
Baptist were sent by Him to ask
Jesus if lie was really the Messiah.
Jesus sent them back to tell John
what they had seen and (heard. This
was the best proof that he was what
John had thought Mitis to be-= " the
Lamb of God', that taketth away the
sin of the world." jesus later on

took the disciples into His fuller con-
fidence and showed them the relation-
sthip existing between Him and God -
that of Rather and Son. He 'then

power to share that. -with all who
could come to Him.
March 9th -The Parable of the Sower.
-Matthew. 13:1-9, 18=23.
- Matthew X3:9.
Jesus used parables very often in
His teaching. When alone with the
disciples he would explain the mean-
ing. In this parable of the sower He
represents the need to be the word
and the ground to be who hear. He
emphasized the necessity there is for
diligent •hearing in order to good
fruitage. If the ground is good the
result will be "some thirty -fold, some
sixty, and some an hundred."

acct would appear abhorrently saerl-
ligious to a Calnadian, but not se to
the native 'Ouban, who are devout
Cettholies, though poor in worldly pos-
sessions, as a Glasse are rich in church
attendance. The good Cartholic priest
celebrating Mass may also 'preach to
Maple families bearing the name of
Jesus who thoroughly understand the.
difference between' their names and
that of Jesus Christ, the only Begot-
ten Son of God, the Saviour of man-
kind, whose real presence is on the
church altar, and when repeating the
Apostle's Creed, "I believe in God
and in Jesus Christ, etc.," in
adoration meekly and devoutly kneei
at mention of His Holy Name. Many
of the Jews contemporary with Christ
did not understand Jesus as Christ
theSaviour of mankind on account
of His brothers and sisters living and
working with them in daily occupa-
tions. Another feature is the non-
sensical and thoroughly disgusting
practice amongst habitual swearers
who profane the sacred name of
Jesus should they live in Cuba and
indulge in such like profanity, they
would prove the laughing ,stack of
the community as the swear words
used would only refer to a Cuban citi-
zen bearing the name of Jesus, thus
"good cometh out of evil." All honor
t9 the members of the Holy Name
Society of the Catholic Church in
their laudable effort to preserve to
posterity the sanctity of the precious
name of the Saviour of mankind.
Christian denominations throughout
the universe 'should emulate the
praiseworthy action of this noble so-
ciety.
As consequent through being an old
time Anglican Catholic, we were con-
stant in attendance at the services
in the cathedral and accompanied the
Bishop and Dean in the rendering of
the church ritual. The cathedral is of
Spanish architecture. and the inside
service appointments are perfect. In
seating capacity it is on a parity with
our own St. Thomas' Church. The
intercessory prayer as contained in
the. Book of Ceminon Prayer was ren-
dered by the Bishop An Lellelf oj; the
President 'd the 'United btatet, King
(George of Pritain and the President
of Cuba. Like the Pope, President
Machado is a good Catholic and con-
sidering the innversality of the
'church, the prayer of the Anglican
'Bishop on his behalf might be deem-
ed as infea dig at the throne, how-
ever, permit an old Tory scribe to
think Biblically, "the prayer of a
righteous man evaile'th much," and
let It go at that.
The barbers' .strike created an •amus-
ing situation until raised. There are
over 4,000 knights of the blade in
the city. The city council passed an
edict making it compulsory to reg-
ister as barbers -ea strike resulted.
The tourist's full -joy cup is not com-
plete until he gets 'a shave and a
shine. The shave -barber gives twp
jerks sideways to the head followed
by up and down grade flourishes of
the razor, which gives a scare and
a shave at the same time. You won't
forget it. A shoe shine is zip -zip and
pay. A shave by a good barber furn-
ishes real pleasure and there nre
many in the city.
The yearly average export .ef, sugar
from Cuba is estimlated at 5,000,000
tons and the value of exported molas-
ses •is placed at 7,000,000. The value
of exported liquors is $5,000,000. The
sugar crop is valued at $500,000,00()
and the tobacco crap at $50'.000,000.
The United States is the largest con-
sumer, afterwards Spain, France and
Britain. There are thirty different

ferent native'birds sing daily in their
branches. There are 3,350 different
varieties of native plants in daily con-
sumption, thus making it possible for
March 16th -Parables of The King-
dom. •
•--Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52.
-Matthew 15:17.
In these parables of the mustard
seed, the leaven, the hidden treasure,
goodly pearls, the net, the household-
er, all teach that the kingdom which
is within us develops and expands as,
we hide the word of God within our
heaarts and practise it in our lives,
March 23rd - Jesus Teaching And
Healing.
- Matthew 15:21 -31.
-Matthew 7:7.
Jesus and His disciples had gone
beyond the bounds of Galilee into the
cities of Tyre and Sidon. A Genrbile
woman besought Him to heal her
daughter and He seemingly repulsed
her approach but it was only to te:leh
her how properly to approach Him.
When she realized that she had no
right to address Him as the Son of
David and said. "Lord, help. me," then
He commended her faith and healed

DO YOU FEAR
A HEARTY MEAL ?
Dr. Williams' Pink Pills Will Tone
Up Your Stomach, Making
Mealtime a Pleasure. ,
Are you afraid of mealtime? Does
eating distress you? Would you
rather go without food. That is the
condition of many due entirely to
indigestion. There can be no perfect
digestion -hence no enjoyment of
meal -time -unless you haver rich, red
blood. This pure blood is necessary
to tone up your stomach and make
it capable of properly digesting the
f trod.
Many so-called stomach remedies
merely try to digest your food for
you. That is a mistake nature should
do that work and if nature does not
do it serious results are bound to fol •
low. Tone up your stomach by driv-
ing out the poisons that are in the
blood. Make new rich blood and
your appetite and digestion will soon
be normal -meals will once more be
a pleasure.
The one sure medicine to enrich
the blood, restore strength and ban-
ish stomach trouble and indigestion
is Dr. Williams' Pink Pills. Concern-
ing them Mrs. Wm. T. Thompson,
Brussels, Ont., says: -"For years I
suffered with indigestion, headaches
and dizzy spells. I tried a great
many so-called remedies without re-
lief. As a farmer's wife, with three
little girls, it was almost impossible
to be idle and I just dragged myself
through my work. I suffered so I
was actually afraid of meal time. A
friend advised the use of Dr. Williams
Pink Pills and although I had lost
faith in ever being well again I pur-
chased a supply and began taking
them. Gradually the dizziness and
headaches left me. My appetite im-
proved and soon I was able to enjoy
my meals. I gained in weight and
my health in general is better than
it has been for years. I feel I owe
much to Dr. Williams Pink Pills for
they relieved me of all my misery."
You can get these pills from any
medicine dealer or by mail at 50 cents
a box from The Dr. Williams Medicine
Co., Brockville, Ont.
WHO'S WHO! WHAT'S
WHAT, AND WHY?
(By F. G. Neelin, Seaforth, Ont.)
(Continued from page 1)
Cuba is a foreign country as tdpi-
fied in the odd customs and manners
of Spain,, Italy and Palestine which
appear strange, "passing strange" to
Canadians visiting the island for the
first time. For instance, on the sides
of the street cars are signs painted in
large red letters, "Jesus del monte
malecon" and a railway station is
named, "Jesus Maria." Many Cuban
families bear Christian and surnames
of Jesus. The name of the Minister
of Justice in the Machado Govern-
ment Cabinet is Jesus Maria Bar -
segue. The city telephone directory
gives the names of Canova Jesus and
Maria Jesus. For a moment imagine
the consternation of a devout Canad-
ian Christian telephoning to either of
the names mentioned using the cus-
tomary "Hello'" is that Mr., Mrs. or
Miss speaking whole using the name
of Jesus in connection therewith. The

Cattle are net exported as the home
market takes the entire ranch pro-
duct. Havana alone consumes over
400 head of cattle daily. We were -
singularly fortunate in forming the
acquaintance of Mr. J. G. Frederick-
son, of LEIS Tunas, Oriente, who con-
ducts one of the principal cattle
ranches' of Cuba, situated on the elasit-
ern part of the island. He is a na-
tive of Denmark and through applied
knowledge of the in -breeding of cat-
tle comprised together with business
acumen, has reached ranch limits that
wo in of Tex-
as or Alberta, where the Prince of
Wales' ranch is located. President
Machado is also interested in cattle
ranching, having a range at Santiago
de 'la's Vegas and the State Depart-
ment of Cuba is alive to the import-
ance of the. cattle industry, having
grantedl liberal appropriations to-
ward the improvement of live stock
breeding herds.
Tobacco is King in Cuba and like
its drink companion, everybody in-
dulges in smokes. Cigars were smok-
ed when Columbus discovered. the is-
land and were carried back to Europe
by members of the 'expedition. Some
say the Asiatics brought the weed to
America. Tobacco w n kers are im-
mune .from tuber'culose's and contag-
ious diseases. A Havana cigar quiets
the nerves, scathes troubled spirits
and ,perfumes `'pure thoughts, but you
must rememlber the McKillop old boy's
advice when buying your smokes, "If
you get more than six cigars for a
quarter, they are not the pure Hav-
anas."

a feed filled with nourishment. A feed which will

Cod-liver oil .. , dried buttermilk ... alfalfa Sour ..
