E. Leisemer's, Mildmay this week. On Tuesday these two families along with a few other friends enjoyed- a very pleasant day's picnic at Lakelet. The Misses Kelly, who commenced a fancy store a few weeks ago have removed to Thorold where they hope to find it much better for their business. -They made many friends during their short. stay here. - Among those from this village who are taking in the Toronto Exhibition this week are: Mr and Mrs Oliver, Mrs Milne Miss Addie Moyer, Messrs. Chas. Wendt and John Curle. This party left on Tuesday morning. Mr. McGavin's,new traction engine went through a small bridge on the second concession last Tuesday evening. Little damage was done beyond the loss of time in extricating it and the break- ing of some planks on the bridge. Mr. Wm. Newell, of the 16th con., Howick, well known in Mildmay, died on Saturday last from paralysis, at an - advanced age and highly, . respected by ail. His wife is, we are sorry to learn, now in a very critical condition from an attack of inflamation. The death of Mrs. Brier occurred in this village at 1 o'clock on Friday morn- ing last an advanced age. She came with her husband and family to Mild- may a few years ago, where she bad a brother, Mr. Henry Hunstein, and a sis- ter, Mrs. 1. Diebel, living. -She was ae consistent member of the Evangelical church and was buried on Sunday morning last, a large concourse Attend- ing. She leaves a family and three grown-up children. The game of foot ball between the Mildmay and Corrie teams, which was played on Mr. Harrison s field here 1st Saturday, drew out a large crows. The game was very close and exciting, and while no roughness or quarreling was indulged in. between the players,: yet the home team and the spectators were exasperated at the decisions of the referee.
