Our foot -ball team was somewhat dis-
appointed at the failure of the Gorrie
boys to show up last Saturday as ex-

challenges from neighboring clubs,
either junior or senior. It is hinted
that Brer Chester, of the Clifford Ex-

takes pride in. Mildmay is waiting to
annihilate them I

Mr. F. W. Thornas,- Principal of the
Mildmay Public School for several years
past, has accepted a situation as Princi-
pal of the Baden School, Waterloo
county, at an increase of $150 per year
on his present salary, and will shortly
remove to that village to take his new
c harge. Mr. Thomas has been very
succeesful here and the' 'trustees in ac.
cepting his resignation, expressed their
high appreciation Tef 4tis worth in a
strong resolution. There are already
many applications in for , the vacant
position, none of which -have, so far,
been accepted. Messrs. Hall, of the
Inglis School, near Belmore, and Berry,Always
of the Breslau school, have each been
invited to take the plaele, but the form-

latter has not, as yet, replied.,
Mr. Geo. Bowes and wife of Howick,
had a rather narrow escape on 'I'hurs-
day evening last. His horse which was
attached to a cart started backing up
and before it could be stopped went
over the sidewalk nearlhe bandstand
where there is a drop -of & few feet.
Fortunately no one was hurt beyond a
severe shaking up. It was thought
however, that the horse would have fall-
en back on the cart and its occupants
but such was no t the case. In going
the horse dropped and the cart
over, :
was badly wrecked.--tOhfford Express.
