THE HURON EXPOSITOR,

slight sigh. , "Dear Hope 1 I should
like to see her again."'
"1 wish you could menage to take
me with you, Jocelyn," said Lottie.
"Hope cannot possibly have any en-
mity tigainst me. Might I go, mother!
It would be refreshing to see a girl
with a strongly marked antipathy for
for anyone. Besides, I suppose she is
marrying a wonderful oddity. Did you
ever see an Oxford don fit to look at,
Jocelyn? There, mother has gone out
of the Town. She is quite huffed about
Hope, I can ssee that. Jocelyn, have
you made up your mind about the

'"Which I truat won't quite finish
you, Lottie as I mean to tell you noth-

CHAPTER XIX.
Days pass quickly when one is busy,
slowly when oue is -anxious. Cecil Grey
thought the two months which -inter-
vened between Rape's engagement and
her wedding the longest -he had ever
gone through. Hope, on the contrary,
full of energy and work, her eheart
dancing with toy, her whole nature
basking in the eunshine of a great love,
found these same days marvelously
fleet -footed.
Hope was not a girl to do anything by
halves. When she fell in love, she did
not do so in* half-and-half way; there
was no girl so altogether blessed as Hope
Karron. _ For a time the queer story
Markham had told her produced a cer-
tain effect -a certain umeasiness when
her joy seemed most near perfection;
but every day she thought more of the
man himself, the less did ehe trouble
herself about an unknown, :indistinct
shadowy rivet.
Hope's weddimoday was arranged for
the sixth of the month, and for various
.reasons, Jocelyn's arrival could not take
place until the day before. On the
morning of that day Cecil Called rather
early at the Douglass', house. His face
looked cereworn, his eyes had an excited
• gleam in them'the boyish expression had
almost totally left his somewhat thin but
handsome face. The little house was in
that state a confusion which will, pre-
• cede even the quietest wedding. •Ceeil
was shown into the drawing room,
which was littered all over with wed -
„ding presents and odds and ends of
half-fluished finery. In,a moment Hope
opened the folding door which divided
the tiny roam from the dining apart
ment behind. She came in hasti4,
holding out both her hands to Ceciletnd
looking so radiant, so expectant, so like
her name, that the young fellow recoil:
ed with a half -smothered exclamation.
" Good gracious, Hope, don't. look so
happy !" he said.
Cecil 1"
Hope's expression changed to one of
,concern and pity.
"Dear Cecil, yoa are Oot well. Why
do you speak to me like that ? Why
should I not. look happy? Jocelyn is
coming to -,lay, and tomorrow I am to be
Dick's wife. Dick 1 FancyDick falling
in love with me, Cecil. You used to say
he -was so good, even goed enough for
Jocelyn. Do you remember? Fency
-1-ny getting him! How can I help being
happy, dear Cecil?" ,
" Yes, but you looked so -so -like the
thing itself -like hope itself in the
room. Don't, it isn't lucky."

" Perhaps so. I have had a sensation
of being rather hipped lately. Don't
bother about me. I called to day to
know if I could be any help to /you,
Hope?"
" In what way ?"
"Weil you see, Markham won't be up
from Oxford in time. Is thought per-
haps I qould go to Victoria with you to
meet Jocelyn. There'll be Kure to be
some fuas, getting her things through
the customs, and all that. I thought
. perhapli I could be a help.'
"Dear.Cecil, of course you can be a
help -it will e just the very thing.
One always w nts a man on these sort
of occasions, and Jocelyn won't be my
dear old Jo if she has not heaps of bag-
gage. Bat you're sure you don't mind,
Cecil?"
" Why should I ?" ,
This was said a little roughly. H
colored.
" I mean -yon see, Cecil, I don't for-
get you even though I am so happy -I
thought it might hurt you to meet Joc-
elyn like that."
Not a bit of it -I'm long past that
stage."
Again he @poke roughly, and a warm
color flooded his face.
. " Then I'm delighted to have you,"
said Hope, not noticing, or not. appear-
ing to notice, hie queer manner. "Do
you know I rather strategized about
Dick. Of course he wanted to come with
me, to meet Jo, but I did not want him

him to chow!) a train from Oxford which
would come in too late to bring hini in

night, and then Jocelyn will be quite
Tested, and he'll see her at her very

change in Cecil had really begun about
the date of her own engagement to

To the Editor of Tus HURON EXPOSITOR.
DEAR SIR, -There is an old adage
that says "s prophet is not without
honor save in his own country," and -the
saying iagenerally accepted as contain-
ing much truth. Indeed, it is expanded
into the generally accepted belief that
"true merit, whether it be that of an in-
dividual, or that of some medicinary
preparation is much more likely to meet
with popular approval at a distance than
at home. Nasal Balm, acknowledged
being the greatest remedytor cold in the
head and catarrh, ever offered the pie -
pie of Canadtaaffords a striking instance
of the fact that popular opinion, for
once, at least, is wrong. From the out-
set its popularity in the home of its
manufacture has been unbounded and
constantly increasing. In evidence of
this WO offer testimonials from two
Brockville gentlemen who are known
throughout the Dominion. •
D. Derbyshire, Esq., Mayor of Brock-
ville, and for the past two years Presi-
dent of the Ontario Creamery Associa-
