home have been guilty of using profane
sold other unbecoming language. One
Sabbath evening recently the thing re-
- suited in a fight between some Wallac
lambs and Elm& iGritis. As a result
sohdisgraceful Fonduct, four of those
young men were summoned to appear
before Squire Osisens, who gave the
bays some very sound advice, and got
them to promise that they would abandon
that sort of thing. He fined them, $1
and costs, $3.30 each.
—A young man, son of Mr. Jaines
Ling, Croma-rty, met with a bad. acci-
dent in Mitchell the other clay. His
bone became frightened and ran away,
aver -turning the buggy and pitching mit
the occupaut on his head and shoulders.
le was badly hurt but is progressing
favorably.
We are glad to learn that Mr. Wm.
seifeer, of Downie, near St. Marys, who
sane thee ago received injuries to his
spine, in consequence of which he has
been confined to his bed ever since, has
seceived hopes from ,Dr. McKay that he
will eventually recover. " The improve
nient in his, condition lately being but
trifling, but that mucli has been very
encouragiag.
--Nearly e hundred. of the elderly
people f the Methodist church, St.
Marys, aoeepted of Rev. A. M. and Mrs.
Philips' invitation to, spend the after-
noon of Thanksgiving Day at the parson-
age. A very pleasant! and harmonious
time was spent. In the evening the
young people joined with their elders in
theschool-room of the church and passed
couple of hours in social conversation
and getting theroughly acquainted with
each other.

—A Scotch paper of recent datemakes
the suggestion that each Seotsrnan the
world over contribute one shilling for
the purpose of erecting a monument to
the late lamented vocalist, David Ken-

contributing to the above object, every
Scotsman the world over contribute a
like sum for the purpose of relieving the

—It is reported ar und Donegal,
thetoweship of Elena, hat a man, who
along with a cornpaniokt has made their
headquarters in an old lhouse on the 3rd
concession, has been arrested in Strat—
ford for paseing counterfeit money.,
They were suspected by the near neigh-
bors of carrying on some secret busi-
ness, as they did not seem willing to al-
low any one into the hoe*; neither did
they appear anxious te get work from
any of th-e- farmers around. It is also
said that since his are* two men have
been known to call at the house where
they stopped and to dairy off all or part
of their stuff.
—On Wednesday evening, the 24th
inst., the residence of Mr. James Wood-
ley, Fullerton- village, A -es the scene of
happy smiles and greetings, hearty
well wishes and hopeful anticipations
The occasion was the marriage of Mr.
Woodley's eldest daughter, Jane, to
Mr. James Courtice, of: Brandon, Mani-
toba, and son of Mr. Wm. Courtice, of
Fullerton: The ceremony was per-
formed by Rev. Jas. Caswell, in pres-
ence of a large number of relatives and
friends. After spending,- a few pleasant
hours the company took leave, happy
over the occasion and the kind atten-
tions of Mr. and Mrs. Woodley and
family. Mr. _ and Mrs. Courtice will
leave shortly for their Manitoba home
where they will carry with them many
tangible expressions of the good -wish -es ,
of their frieeds, contributed on the oc,
casion. All join in wishing them bon
voyage and mach• happiness and pros-
perity in their new home.
—On account of two interesting cases
to be tried, the conri roam at Shake-
speare on the occasion of the sitting of
the Division Court last week, was
crowded. One case was that of a young
lad who had left his employer before his
time was up. It wal proved that whilst
the starling, grumbling, discontented
conduct of the farmer rendered his hired
boy's life anything but pleasant, yet as
no avert act of ill -usage was proved, His
Honor held that the boy left without
just cause and thereby forfeited his two
months' wages.,° It is hoped that the
farmer, who ie rich., will yet pay the
boy whet he fairly earned., as he can ill
afford to want his wages: The other
case was to collect the- balance on a
horse trade which took place nearly -sten
years ago, during which time plaintiff
had paid to defendant eery year a large
blacksmith account without any dedu
, tion on account of the trade. Final
some ill -feeling erase between them, a
two years ago. 3S of deferecant's mone
coming into thehands of plaintiff he
kept it as part payment, thereby re-
viving the claim • OR trade. Defendant
claimed that it - was clearly understood
at the time of the trade that no money
was to be paid, but was in accordance
with the usual plan of horse dealers and
jockeys generally, to keep up prices.
His Honor reserved judgment.
