--Editor Crosby, of the Daily Adver-
for, Boston, has a smart setter. The
other day a lady walking through the
ialds near where Mr. Crosby was spend -
his vacation lost her watch. The
1ter was made to smell of the lady's
watch -pocket and then told to "bring
dead bird." He ranged the field in fine
form and finally came tost stand at a little
snit of grass. When his master came up
hssfourati the watch ticking Wader the
deg's reliable nose.
—A story is related of an incident
which occurred during the holiday in
Bavaria. of Mr. Gladstone and his
friesda On one of their excursions and
one climbing and winding mountain
reads,,in which they were suddenly
&plied on the edge of a precipice and
further passage hafted by the appear-
ance of a bull heading a herd of cows.
Theliones attached to the carriage he-
arse greatly excited and began to
plunge violently. lt.tr. Gladstone, com-
prehending the situation in a moment,
stepped lightly from the carriage and
grew a shawl deftly over the bull's
head. The animal then allowed him -
pelf 0 be led to the side of the road
and the carriage passed on up the moun-
tain.
—Several stock -raisers publish in the
Hamilton Spectator the followin 0. com-
munication :, On the evening of Septem-
ber 24th thirteen cars of stock were load-
ed at Guelph,at 5 to 8 p. rn. on the show
ground, when they were shu.nted to a
side track and left standing until about
6,30 next morning, then sent to Harris-
burg, where they were again delayed fon
seven and oue-half hours; afterwards at
several stations delays of about an hour
took place, so that it was 9 p. m. Satur-
day when sheep and cattle were unload-
edhere, and pigs could not ilse taken off
until the morning of the 26th, the con-
sequence being that three valuable pigs
(two being imported) were found dead.
Our stook was therefore on the cars from
24 to- 36 hours -while being taken from
Guelph to Hamilton, and came off in a,
pitiable condition, as during all that
time they could not be watered or pro-
perly fed.
—Messrs. Richardson, 13eebe it. Co.,
of East Aurora, New York, are at pres-
ent performing an extraordinary feat in
cheese -making. Some time ago they re-
ceived an order from Thomas J. Lipton,
of Glasgow, Scotland, to make for them
15 eheeses to weigh from 3,500 to 4,000
pounds each. After carefully consider-
ing the order, and the difficulty attend-
ing such an undertaking they decided to
attempt it. Special appliances and ma-
chinery have been purchased, as that
media ordinary cheese -making is of no
use in handling such monsters as these.
Several of these cheeses have been suc-
cessfully moulded, and in about a week
the whole number will be on the curing
shelves. Before commencing, thea mak-
ers received by express from Mr. Lipton
&parcel of British -coin, sovereigns and
half ,sovereiaros, which are being put
into the card of each cheese -when mak-
ing, and will become the prop"erty of
those that are fortunate enimgh to buy
the portions where they are imbedded,
and we understand -that a" further shm
of similar coins will be put into the
cheese while they are on exhibition in
the presence of would-be purchasers,

Catarrh—a New Treatment.
Perhaps the most extraordinary suecess tha
has been achieved in modern medicine has bee
attained by the Dixon Treatment for CatarrF.
Out of 2,000 patients treated during the past sit.
months, fully ninety per cent, have been cure
of this stubborn malady. This is ,none the le
startling when it is remembered that no five per
cent. of patients presenting themselves to th
regular practitioner are benefitted, while the
patent medicines and other advertised cur
never record a cure at, all. Starting with th
eleim now generally believed by the most scie
tific men that the disease is due to the presenc
of living parasites in the tissue, Mr. Dixoq
once adapted his cure to their extereninatidn
eh% accomplished, he claims the Catafrh is pra
neatly cured, and the permanency is uequestio
td, as cures effected by him four yeans ago ar
cures still. No one else has -ever attempted
cure Catarrh in this manner, and no other ;treat
ment has ever cured Catarrh. The 'applicatia
of the remedy is simple, and can be .done
home, and the present season of the year is th
most favorable for a speedy and permanent our
the majority of cases ireing cared at one tree
