Guibord's Grave.
An immense tonibstone was placed on
-Quihord's grave on Tuesday. It is one
of the blocks of the stone sarcopha
hjh was eat out last autumn and?Ie-
to enclose the coffin of Guibord.
It will be remembered that two immense
blocks of granite wore hawed out of a
cavity left in each one of them, in which
the coffin was to be placed as ar precau-
tion against the disinterment of Gui-
bord's remains by fanatics, On, the eve
of burial, however, in obedience to the
urgent and even imperative renion
strenoes of Mayor Efingston the
sarcophagus was abandoned. Mr.
Bowan the .Superintendent of the
Institut' Canadien, applied at the office
of the Falkique to obtain a pernait for
the entry of the stone. He did not see
Mr. Chaquette, but the clerk told him
there would beno objection. Mr. Boisseau,
however wishing to conduct everything
fairly and above board waited to get a
permit in due form, and to that end re-
turned twice subsequently, for the pur-
pose of ;seeing Mr Cha,quette, but on each
oecasion that gentleman was absent. On
his seeond visit he was promised a definite
answer. Next day on returning he was
told that the Fabrique had no response to
make to his application; that they ignor
ed the Institut Ganadien, and conse-
quently would neither grant nor re-
fuse him a, permit. The block of granite
was lying in the yard of Mr. Robert
Reid, who woe charged with the pre
-
ration of the sarcophagus last, year.
rly Tuesday morning four of Mr.
Poid's men loaded the block upon a car-
riage, and conveyed it around the moun-
tain to the Roman Catholic cemetery.
The stone is 7 feet 10 inches long, 3 feet
6 inches in width, and 1 foot 9 inches in
height, and weighs about two and a half
tons. At 10 o'clock Mr._ Reid, accom-
panied by Mr. Boisseau, proceeded to
the Roman Catholic cedletery in a car-
riage by way of. Mount Royal Cem-
etery. On reaching the ground they
found the workmen had already
arrived and were rolling the stone
into its place. They stated that no one
had interfered. with them, and indeed no
one knew what was on the carriage
as the stone was covered by a wooden
box. Soon after reaching the grave Mr.
Desloches, the guardian of the Cemetery,
came up and asked if they were going to
put it on Guiborcl's grave. They replied
in the affirmative, whereupon he turned
and walked off without saying anything
more. In order to ascertain the condition
of the Portland cement with which the
coffin had been surrounded, Mr. Reid dug
down to it and found it impervious to
the pick, and bearing no marks
of having been tampered with. After
a good deal of lifting and tugging by the
'workmen, the tombstone
was got into its
place, exactly over the coffin. On its
surface a. marble tablet Was firmly era- ,1
bedded, bearing the following inscription:
"f -Jos. Gailborcl, Decede 19 Nov., 1869,
Inhume 16 Nov., 1875." While the,
stone was being placed three French
Canadians came strolling along and cau-
tiously approached the grave. After read-
ing the inscription they withdrew a short
distance and commented upon the dr-
curnstancee. Finally everything was ar-
ranged, and the party left the ground be -
forenoon. Thus was laid the first monu-
ment to Guibord,

Who Will Be First?
The attention of theinarriageableyoung
ladies of the county of Huron is most re-
eespectfully directed to the accomplish-,
moats possessed by Mrs. Robt. Jones, the'
wife of a farmer living in Washington
Territory, U, S. who, this spring,hauled
10,000 fence rads from. the mountains all
alone, put 75 acres in wheat with a gang
plow, prepared a fine garden, milks IS
cows twice a (ley, makes butter twice a
week, keeps 420 laying- hens, and disn
poses of their produce, which supplies the
family with all their groceries, attends
to her houeehohl duties, and takes care
of four interesting children." Now,
we know of a very nice young man who
says he will marry any woman who coat
go and do as Mrs. Jones does, applica-
cations to be sent in (post paid) to the
"junior editor of the Goderich Star."
A kind hearted youug, lady of Lon-
don, Ont., reeently visited the -ladies
department ot the Lunatic Asylum in
that city. inone of the wards she was
accosted by a good, old patient, who, in a
beseeching styie, implored h r to give
her just one kis,, adding, "It's many a
day since a pair a young lips ave kiss-
ed my cheek.." The young 1 dy could
scarcely refuse; but, as this tarted the
whole ward, am she had o kiss all
through before slii was clone. hat young
lady thought she had enough of kissing
for one day.
Eveland, a lad fourteen years
of age, in the employment of Mrs. Hep-
burn, about two miles from Port Stanley,
went to the field early Saturday morning
to drive the cows up to be milked. No
one knew where be had gone, but his
prolongued absence caused anxiety, and
search -was made when he was f oimd
quite unconscious, lying in a furrow,
stripped. of every vestige of clothing, his
mouth filled with sand, and his body
shockingly bruised, having been attacked
by a bull, a young animal less than two
years old that ran. with the cows. He
was taken to the house and. medical aid
at once procured, but nothing could be
done for Win. Ile died about an hour
and a half after he was found, never hav-
ing rallied from the shock. _The bull
was supposed to be harmless.
---The Kingston Daily _News says
"About a. year ago John Bean laid &Way
about $180 in gold, which he had saved.
Latterly a daughter of his, a girl about
fourteen, had been noticed spending
money freely, On being asked wlaere
she got it, she said she picked rageand
sold them. A few days ago Mr. Bean
tiought he would like to see his money,
but when he went to look for it he found
it all gone. The girl was suspected, and
ahe wee taken to one of the exchange
offices, where the information was ob-
tained that she had exchanged a cone
eiderable quantity of gold. She was then
put in the Police Station, but she would
- not confess anything, except that, she
spent the money on candies. The father
took her away with him, as he thought
there was no use in prosecuting her."
