-A child, four years of age, son of
Mr. Alexander, was at his grandmoth-
er's near Beryls, Bruce county, on Good
Friday, and in playing about the house
fell into an open well and was drowned.
The boy was found floating with head
downwards. It is supposed thc strong
wind overbalauced the child. No one
can be too cautious in making a well se-
. cure.
----Not long since, a servant girl em-
ployed in one of the hotels in Clinton,
found a pocket -book in a bed-iroorn, con-
taining $1,500. Without informing any-
one of her discovery, she jisced it be-
tween two mattresses, to wait a claim-
ant as she believed the owner would re-
turn for it. The loser who happcned to.
be a, drover, did not discover his loss for
some time, and when he did, was some-
what doubtful as to its recovery, but on
returning to the hotel and making known
his loss, he was greatly pleased to have
his property restored to him.1

tirely consumed brfire on the 13th inst.,
together with his farm stock and imple-
ments. Sixteen head of horses and cattle
perished in thsvflatnes. Only two " head
of cattle were saved, and those were bad-
ly burned. The flames had gained such
headway before being discovered that it
was impossible to save anything. The
building and stock are fully covered by
insurance. Mr. Coon was absent when
the fire occurred. I

WHEREAS, the Municipal Council of the Town
of Seaforth have resolved to raise by way 1
Leen the sum of Three Thousand Dollars for the
purpose of granting aid, by way of a Bonus of
that amount, to ANDREW WHITLAW, of the
Town of Paris, to enable the said ANDREW
WHITLOW to estisblish a Foundry and Machine
Shop in the Town of Seafortbe and to raise the
said money it will be necessary for the Municipal
Council 01 the Town of Seaforth to issue deben-
tures for the sum of Three Thousand Dollars,
payable with interest as hereinafter provided,
AND WHEREAS, the total amount required to be
raised annuany by special rate for the payment of
the said Three Thousand Dollars and intereet
thereon will be -Five Hundred and Ten -Dollars.
AND Wtinnoes, the amount of the whole rate-
able property of the Munielpality of Seaforth, Jr-
reepective of any increase of the same, end irre-
speetive of any income to be derived from
the. temporary investment of the sinking Itmd
kereinafter mentioned, according to the lest re-
vise& and equalized Assessment Boll of the said
Municipality, being for the year 1875, was Fear
Hundred and Fifty -Seven Thousand, Two ,Iftm-
dr• AedieroD°Willlerersn' zee, the existing debt of the Bald
Manleipality is Three l'housand Dollsrs, payable
on the let day of September, 1885, with interest
at Seven per cent. per annum, payable ote the
firat days of Minch and September in each year,
the interest on which hag been paid in fall to the
first day of Mareh, 1876, arid- the sum of One
Thousand Dolhers has been and is now invested
by the said Municipality to provide for the repay-
ment of the principal Sum.
AND WHEREAS, for paying the interest end
creating an equal yearly sinking fund ter paying
the principal of the debt hereby ereatee, there Will
be required to be levied in eaeh. year, until the said
debt and interest be fully paid, the sum of one
4,1-8131 mills on the dollar, in addition to all
other rates to be levied in said years.
Be it therefore enacted by, the Municipal Cotm-
ell of the Town of Seaforth
1. That it shall be lawful for the Council of
the Municipality of the Town of Seaforth to raise
by way of loan from any person or persons, hody
or bodies corporate, who may be willing to ' tra-
vel:tee the same upon the security of the deben-
tures hereinafter mentioned, a stun of money tot
•exceeding in the whole the BUM Of Three Thou-
sand Dollare, and to cause the same to be paid
into the hands of the Treasurer for the purppse
bereinafter mentioned.
2. Tbat it shall be lawful for the said Connell

for not less than One Hundred Dollars each,and
not in the aggregate exceeding the raid saute of
Three Thousand Dollars, payable at the times, mud
