The Borsenzeitung, of Berlin,
says that the result of the late ar-
tiilery trials has shown a consider
able imptovement in :Prussian guns.
.At the triari Iri "1868 it appealed
that on. the average the iron targete
could. °Lily be penetrated when their
tbicknes wae an inch less than the
calibre of the guns which were fired
at them; thus the nine -inch gun
cou not penetrate a plate that was
more than eight inches thick. But
now a shot fired by the eleven.incli
gun goes dean through a plate of
twelvej inches, and it is expeoted
that by slightly -increasing, the charge
this result will be obtained even
with the tera inch gun: A for the-
- twlve-in& gun, which is IltiW in
the course of construction, there isev-
ery reason to believe that it willene-
trate fourteen and tifteen-inch plates.
The writer attributes this chiefly to
the improvfid system of man
ing guns witi coils; which enk
much greater charge to be used l Ian
The prospects for a bountiful harvest were never better than this year, and
