The Parson's Lesson.
Deacon Slocum, as had been his
custotn for years, had prepared a
fine fat turkey as a Christmas pres-
ent to his minister, and he called
upon Iiis son Tom to carry it over to
the parsonage, but Toni objected.
' How, now, my Sou ?' demanded
the deacon,' you know this is my
custom. You carried a turkey to
the parson last year, and - your elder
brothels have dope it in the years
More you: were big enough.'
• ' And,' retorted `.jour, Parson
Grimmer was never the man to say
Thank ye.' He takes it as a mat-
ter of
atter-of coarse. It don't set well on
my stummick to: have a man snub
me when I'm dein' hint a favor.'
'But, Tom, you must remember
Parson Grammer is a peculiar man.
He means well."
' And so 1 s'pose does old Brindle

her tail in your eye ; \but I've noticed
you didn't seem . to like it."
The good deacon smiled and pat-
ted his son on the shoulder.
Carry the turkey to the parson,
conn:, and if he don't thank you for
it, I will.'
Tom shouldered - the fowl—fat,
fair, and large—and carried it to the
minister's house, when he found the
host in the sitting -room with a num-
ber of brother clergymen for com-
pany.

inghis burden upon the table with a
thump, ' there's.a turkey father .sent
to you. He told me to bring it and
I've brought it.'
And with this be would have
turned •cipon his heel and left; but
the minister called Niru back.
'
Thomas, you did. right to obey
your father. Obedie-ace is a good
thing; Gut you might improve upon
the manner of obedience -you might
have done your errand more respect-
fully.'

CAUTION -
To the Public of the British Provinces of North
America.
IBEG most respectfully to acquaint the public
of the British North American Provinces that
in Mast,1871, I caused the business at 80 Maiden -
Lane, 2 ew York, for the sale of Holloway's Pills
and Ointment, which were up to that time pre- -
pared by William Brown, nowv deceased, to be
closed. I regret to say that I have reason to
know that the management of the late business
had for some years, in many ways, been most cor-
rupt, and it nine be that the Pills and Ointment
were not prepared with the care I have always de-
sire& Those who do not wish to be deceived by .
buying spurions medicines, which are now likely to
emanate from the States or eloerhere, to possess
themselves of the gonnine Holloway's Pills and -
Ointment, manufactured by me in London, Bug -
land, will do well to see that each pot and box
bears the British tro, ernment stamp, on. which is
engraved the words, " Holloway's Fills and Oint-
ment, and that, the address on the label is 538,
(Weal -street, London, wbere.only they are manu-
factured, and in no other part of the world. The -
retail prices are on. the labels in British ourvency,
and not in dollars and cents. No representative
of mine will ever travel through any part of the
British Provinces or the United States, either toe
sell or to take orders for my Pills and Ointment,
and as I have reason to believe thea attempts will
probably be made to deceive the public in this way
by persons calling upon medicine vendors, falsely
representing that they are acting for me and with
my knowledge and consent, I deem it +advisable to .
put the public on their guard sgainst any such de-
ceptions. I moat earnestly entreat: -ail those who
inayread this advertisement that they be pleased,
in the public interest, to communicate the purport ,
of the sante to their friends that they may not be
defrauded of their money by purchasing, perhaps, •
worthless imitations of the genuine Holloway's
Pills acct Ointineut. • I would ask, as a great faor,
that, should it come to the knowledge of any per -
Hen that spurious medicines are being made or soldm
in my name, he be pleased to send me all the par-
ticulars he can collect respecting the sae, 'that is
to say, the name and address of the vendor who is
selling the epurione medicines, and ° likewise the
Terme and a+ldress of the House in the United
State or elsewhere, which ante have supplied them
so as to enable -me, for the protection of the pub- -
lic, to institute proceedings against such evil-
doers, and I engage to remunerate very handsome-
ly any person ivho may give ane such inform time,
the infornut'e malemalenever being divulged.
Should any person have xeason to believe that he
has been deceived by buying spurious imitations
of these medicines, he will do well to send - rue, in
a letter, to the address at foot (which. he can do at
a cost of sig cents in postage), one of the books of
instruction -which are affixed to the same. I prom-
ise to examine it and send a reply, stating whether medicines edicines are genuine or not, so that, if spa- -
nous, ha luny apply to the person from whom he
purchased thein to have his money returned.
Chemists and Druggists who desire ;.o obtain the
medicines can be sneplied et the lowest wholesale
prices, in quantities of not lose than $20 worth—
viz., 8s. 6d., 22s. and 134s. per dozen boxes of Pills
or pots of Ointment, net, without dir.c:otrnt, for
which
remittence must be sent in advance.
