The Huron Expositor, 1871-05-12, Page 6F- 6.. HURON EXPOSITOR. NEM MAY 12,1871. .12=u=•••,..a The Kincaidine Branch of the VVellirigton Grey . and. Bruce Railway. • .Front, the Listowel Bariner. Two circumstances hat -e trans- pired within the past two weeks to give a greater force to the, probability that a railway will yet be built through ,Listowel. One is the pas- sage of the by-law=in the County- of Grey giving a, bonus to the Toronto railway, thereby. effeetually depriv- ing the Wellington, Grey & Bruce Company of hope of building their proposed line to Oaten Sound, and causing them to turn their at- tention niore unitedly to the pro- posed southern branch .to Kincar-. dine.. The second is the defeating of the proposed bonus to the Loadon road by the County of Huron, thtes. _leaving the northern part of the county in a position to offer a good bonus to the Wellington Company. The result of this combination. of circumstances is that the Directors of the Wellington, _ Grey & Bruce Railway have already taken the pre-' liminary steps, and have. set taloa,- selves ettinestly. to work to eNrry out the project.. We have been shown a letter received by Mr. Hay, from the President of the road, stating that at a .itieeting of the Board on Friday last, it was unanimously re- solVed to send out a staff of engi- - .eers at once to survey the route, iind that they might be _expected in. this neighborhood in the course of a few days. The prevailing, opinion of +be Directors, as well as those of the Great Western, we undetstand..is, that the, most practica, ble route would Ve about as follows : Starting from. Palmerston station, in Wallace, and running ' direct to Listowel, thence westward by way of Trow- bridge, through the .townships of Elnia and Grey to_kinleyville,-thence north-west by way of Bluevale, Wingham, Lucknow, and .Lishorn ad t Kincardine. The vantage to - the Company of the line running by way of Ainleyville instead of Wrox- eter, is abundantly apparent from 'the fact that it would be so much farther distant as hoc to come into direct competition -With th`eir main line.. Besides, it would divide the - country Much more equally by run- ning nearly the \id -161e distance jUst about midway. bet ween the Welling- ton and Bruce main line and the a Bal° and Lake Huron line. Thus we wouldohave thia whole section of northwestern_ Ontario divided into about eqUal parts by the several Imes of railway. First, we have the Northern railway from Toronto to Collingwood ; next westward. the Toronto, Grey & Bruee from Toi•on- • te to Owen Sound; 'then the Wel- lington Grey & Brueti from Guelph • to' Southampton ; then the branch of the sante line from Wallace to Kincardine ; then, the Buffalo & Lake Huron from 'Stratford to Godericl ; having the Grand Trunk at their base • and the, upper lakes as their termini. The first and thc last named of the -above roads have for a number of • years. been in very successful operation. The road to Owen. Sound and the road, to Southampton are now in 'course of construction with the prospect of _early completion. - For the sneceSsful. estaldishment of the Kincardine branch, we in this vicinity are dee ply in Wrested, and to°' tliat end we must put forth our best endeavors by giving it all the aid and encouragement in our power. The amounts set down by the Div- ectors„v_we learn, as likely to be re- quired from the various munieipali ties along the route, areas follows : Wallace_ .. . . ... ... . ..$15,000 Lietowel - .1o,000 lama. 15.000 t rey.. . .. .. ........ ... . . ..... 3000 Morris.. . . .....:. 30,000 30,000 Turnberry. lVest Witwtiosle 100 East Wawanosh. ..... . ... 000 . 20 000 11uron. , • 21,000 Kin cardine................ .. : ... .. 000 5, Kineardiae 1 00 work with that vigor thatshouldcharae- terize all operations, they woUld have . s a .and made it um& easier to• inspire con who glory in the largest bear nd the biggest chignons.
