• The Parisians_ are feeling keenly
the incenveniences of a Short siege,
and are begining to really stiffer from
the cold weather .and other Drive.,
dons they leive been called upon to
undergo They appear to be loosing
confidence in the Gover ment, and
two journals of the "leaeured city
have called upon the Gov rnment to
•confess the truth—to admit the hope-
lessness of expecting relief from the
provinces and the impossibility of
General Trochu cutting his way,
through the encircling irussiana—i
The.only prospects of a sortie ensur-
ing success and attaining the desired
relief is by defeating the Prussians,
and this is aut expected, The French
Commander -in -Chief and his, Gene-
rals have been considering the ad,iri-
sability of making a desperate sortie
on a large scele •,''but there is a divi-
sion of opinion, Ducrot and theiChief
only being in fay tir or it, and the
r
others opposing itas an useless sacri-
fice of valuable lives IA heavy rain
and snow- stem has prevailed in ail
parts of France, and the troops must
suffer severely from the inclemency
of the weather. It is stated that the
Paris;aus.are compelled to resort to
strange dishes of cars and rat e' -under
. their real leimes. in order to, make

Oa Saturday Garibaldi's force came
into collision with the PruSsians
der General Werder. At first the
Garibaldians, making an impetuous
onslaught, drove back the •Prussian
advance, but reinforcenaents arriving
the Garibaldians were repalsee, with
serious loss -and thrown into great
disorder. On Sandav, Gen. Werder,
by makinaba detour, intercepted the
retreatingFrench, and again. attack-
ed them successfully. Accounts of
a contradictory- character are given'
of fighting near Amiens on Saturlday.
• One despatch claims a very decided
victory for the French, and states
that with heavy, loss the Prussians
retreated within their in trenchments ;
but another telegram from Tours ad-
mits that after an obstinate contest
the French retired before superior
numbers from twoi positions, al-
