SNELL - The family of the late Charles E. (C uck) Sne 1' wis es ank
relatives, friends and neighbours for their kind support and sympathy extended to
us at this difficult time. We thank you for the beautiful floral tributes, the many
generous donations made in Dad s memory and the food and cards of condolences
sent to our home. To the staff of Exeter Villa, we can t begin to sufficiently
express our appreciation for your care of Dad. He loved his room, and he loved
the staff. You made him feel welcome from the moment he moved in, and your
care and compassion is deeply appreciated and will never be forgotten. Special
thanks to Jackie Snell, a wonderful friend/relative/aide at the Villa, who made
Uncle Chuck feel comfortable and at home and who went out of her way to do
many extra little things for Dad. To Bob Heywood, thank you for a very warm
and inspiring service. The fact that you had known Dad and the Snell family for
a long time made it very special and meaningful, and you depicted his personality
perfectly - a kind, quiet, considerate gentleman. To the members of the Robert E.
Pooley Legion Branch 167, thank you so much for the special Legion Service for
Dad. It was very moving, and something we will never forget. Also, thank you
to the complete strangers, who e-mailed us to express their gratitude for Dad s
participation in freeing Italy . Although Dad never talked much about his
experience overseas, he was proud to have served his country. Last, but not least,
we would like to thank Haskett s Funeral Home for their help and guidance. You
made a very difficult time easier with your professional expertise and kindness.
Darlene and Bill Bourne and family. (53*)

• With 2008 nearing an end, the
Municipality of South Huron is
getting ready for 2009 budget de-
liberations.
To that end, council set aside time
for presentations from the public
on what types of things council
should consider during the budget
process.
Only one member of the public
spoke, however — Drew Robert-
son of Crediton, representing the
Crediton Community Centre Im-
provement Committee.
Robertson asked council to con-
tinue to pursue recreation grants
for the project, to remain commit-
ted to the committee and to keep
the lines of communication open.
• Ausable Bayfield Conservation
Authority (ABCA) general manag-
er Tom Prout will be asked to come
back to Bluewater council after
several more questions were asked
about the ABCA budget Monday
night at council.
Several of the questions con-
cerned the $6,000 in the budget des-
ignated for the Blue Flag education
programs, which $2,000 each to be
committed by Bluewater, South
Huron and Lambton Shores.

• "I was surprised and delight-
ed," said South Huron Mayor and
new Huron County Warden Ken
Oke, who was elected to the po-
sition in a secret ballot Dec. 3 in
Goderich.
Oke said his goal is that every-
one in the county works as a team,
including taxpayers.
• Hugh McMaster will resign in
April as president of the South Hu-
ron Chamber of Commerce (COC),
citing frustration over obstacles to
a project that would bring a farm-
er's market to Exeter.
Rumblings that McMaster ruled
the COC as a dictatorship also fac-
tored into the decision, he said.
McMaster hoped to see a farm-
er's market created in Exeter and
has secured funding to do so, he
said in an interview last week.

• An information meeting in
Zurich Dec. 9 put on by Tribute
Resources to update residents on
a proposed gas extraction and
storage project didn't provide resi-
dents with enough information for
them to commit to leases, accord-
ing to comments at the meeting.
Several members of Tribute spoke
at the meeting, including president
Jane Lowrie and vice-president of
operations Bill Blake, who said the
project is regulated by the Ontario
Energy Board (OEB) and the Min-
istry of Natural Resources (MNR).
Questions were raised Monday
night at Bluewater council after
water -main breaks in Hensall have
caused a boil water advisory.
Coun. Kay Wise asked general
manager of municipal operations
Jim Bryson about the water -main
break in Hensall on Friday that
caused the boil water advisory in
the village.
Wise said it was handled badly
and residents were advised on a
hit or miss basis.
DECEMBER 24
• With almost no dissenting
votes, the Ausable Bayfield Con-
servation Authority (ABCA) bud-
get was passed Dec. 18 by the
ABCA board of directors.
In a weighted vote, the general
levy of the ABCA passed with only
South Huron representative David
Frayne voting against it.
• The Ausable Bayfield Mait-
land Valley Drinking Water Source
Protection Committee (SPC) has a
new representative for the agricul-
ture sector.
The source protection authorities
announced the selection of John
Vander Burgt on Dec. 19.
