Queensway residents busy with activities HENSALL Queensway Re- tirement Home residents have been busy with several activities. Last week residents enjoyed their eggs to order. Staff members Sandra Johns, retirement home di- rector Julie Grimminck and food service supervisor Joan Bradley set a fun Christmas atmosphere for the residents with their red and white hats and scarves. A Christmas carol was sung by all the residents at the end of the breakfast. Several ladies have been using their artistic talents to make their own Christmas door hangers out of wood. Paint, snowflakes, glit- ter, die cuts and wire were used. Hazel Beaver had the finishing touch with the bows. Stringing popcorn for our furry friends was also on the agenda. It was voted to hand the popcorn outside rather than putting it on the Christmas tree. Steady hands beaded bracelets for the Christmas Bureau. Over 25 were made. Each bracelet had a different colour on it represent- ing Christmas. December is national tie month. During our Tuesday Tea we dis- cussed how to tie a tie and where ties originated from. Linda Bedard has been busy put- ting the final decorating touches in the dining room to create a beautiful Christmas atmosphere. Everyone is invited to come have a look at our Christmas decora- tions throughout our facility and as always welcome to join us for meals. Residents went to spread some Christmas cheer on Friday to the nursing home while singing carols to the nursing home residents. Retirement residents had a Christmas Gala Dec. 23. Resi- dents are excited to have their makeup and manicures complet- ed by staff. We re all farmers and proud, says Elaine Hayter, who along with daughter Lindsay Jayne, is wrapping up the 2008 Faces of Farming calendar as the December picture sponsored by the turkey farmers of Ontario. The 2008 edition of the calen- dar was the third time the Ontario Farm Ani- mal Coun- cil (OFAC) had put out the cal- endar that celebrates Ontario s farming community. Elaine said the experience of being on the calendar has been positive and the pictures turned out well. The Hayters were contacted in 2007 by program manager Kelly Daynard after their names were given as a mother and daughter who could appear in the calen- dar. In August of 2007, the Hayters had their photo shoot at a farm outside Stratford with several shots taken although they had no idea which would be picked. Elaine said the picture of her and Lindsay Jayne in the straw was picked by people in the OFAC office as the favourite of those taken of them and was se- lected as the December picture. The response has been good, Despite the success of the calendar, Elaine said as to wheth- er she would do another one, its time for Tom and the boys to take their turn. Ben McKenzie Burnett JULY 30, 1981 TO DECEMBER 26, 2002 You are in our thoughts and in our hearts every minute of every day. Love, Mom (Kate McKenzie) & Bob McIntosh, Aunt C.P. McKenzie, Joe Adams and cousins Brooke & Presley Wellington, Grandparents Jean & Angus McKenzie, Uncle Ian McKenzie, Rob McIntosh & Jen McIntosh-Buch. said Elaine, with people looking at the calendar hanging in the store and asking if it is her. Despite the success of the calen- dar, Elaine said as to whether she would do another one, it s time for Tom and the boys to take their turn.
