South Huron junior girls take home WOSSAA bronze
EXETER The Panthers Junior
Girls Basketball team capped
off a strong season at WOSSAA
yesterday with a thrilling 38-34
victory over Stratford Central to
win the bronze medal.
Taelor Douglas led the offence
one final time scoring 19 points
to lead all scorers on both teams.
Taylor Mattucci was huge on the
boards collecting eight points
while Jaemi Douglas collected
six points on some gutsy drives
to the hoop.
Taylor Obre added threepoints
and Chelsea Brintnell two to
round out the scoring.
It was a great day and the girls
should be very proud of their en-
tire season, said coach Russ Watson.
Watson wanted to especially
thank the players who will be
graduating to senior next year
including Jaemi Douglas, Taelor
Douglas, Taylor Obre, Taylor
Mattucci, Morgan Powe, Alanna
Horn, Linette Melick, Kristina
Troyer and Morgan Cooper.
Thanks girls for a great two
years and good luck at the next
level! he said.
Watson also wanted to thank
the staff and students who helped
with scorekeeping and organiza-
tion at the WOSSAA tournament,
particularly Cole Vincent and Mr.
0 Rourke who were there to the
very end.

The team showed a lot of fight in
coming back from a 5 1 deficit to
almost tie the game. Great passing
from Jarrett Baker and shooting from
Brett Reid. Brody Reid scored on a
breakaway in the third.

Goals: Austin Glavin, Jarrett Baker

A disappointing loss to a team that
South Huron had defeated twice this
year. Baker scored on an exciting
penalty shot. Jared Denotter demon-
strated his ability to carry the puck
out of the defensive zone on two great
rushes.

Strong shots on net by the goal scorers

This is the first time we have
beaten Strathroy Red, so we are
over the moon. We had some
awesome saves by our goalies
and the defence really did bril-
liant today. Well done. We had a
few chances at making the score
higher maybe they will come
next time.

Sports
Played: I play
on the high
school hockey
team and field
hockey team.
I play on the
London Light-
ning fastball
team and the
Southwestern
Regional field
hockey team. I
was selected to
play for the On-
tario U-16 field hockey team and I enjoy playing for
the South Huron Sabres midget hockey team.
Favourite Sport: I have no particular favourite. I
enjoy playing all three sports.
Achievement/awards: Our high school field
hockey team won bronze the past three years at
WOSSAA. During the summer, my Southwestern
Regional field hockey team won the bronze medal
at the Ontario Summer games in Ottawa and I was
voted team MVP by my coaches and teammates.
Memories: I have fond memories of making good
friends and being able to train with several excel-
lent coaches. There have been many memorable
bus rides and trips to different sports events. While
being involved in sports I have had the privilege of
witnessing some close games, winning some and
losing some.
Importance of sports on life: Sports allows me to
forget about everything around me and just focus
on the game at hand. Sports are a lot of fun, and
while playing sports I have had the opportunity
to meet new friends and learn new skills that will
help me in the future.
Academics: I have been on the honour roll the
last two years.
Career Path: I am not sure what particular ca-
reer path I want to pursue at this point. Possibly
something in the medical field such as an athletic
therapist. I would also like to continue to compete
in sports at the university level.
