Despite the losses, Hawk's coach Hal Flaro was satisfied with the team's effort. "The scores really do not indicate the play of the games, both games were close until the last minute. We have a good group of young men with all kinds of ability, which is going to kick in soon and there will be no looking back. "We had good goals from Brandon Dymond, Steve Gingrich and Kenny Allen. On the whole we are pleased with the team effort." Friday night the Hawks were down 3-1 at the end of the first period as Kevin Dean opened the scoring for Lucan at 7:07 before a shorthanded goal by Nick Engel two minutes later put Lucan ahead by two. Dymond cut the Lucan lead in half at 11:35 of the period but Tyler Medd restored the lead a minute later. The Irish built a 5-1 lead in the second on goals by Matt Curtis and Nick Engel before the five minute mark before Jake Jeffrey's power play goal at 6:49 Hard to the net — Exeter Hawk Brandon Dymond crashes over Lucan Irish goalie Trevor Pearce Friday night at the South Huron Rec Centre. The Irish defeat- ed the Hawks 6-3. In the first game they played St. Marys and won convincingly 5-0. Emily Lacasse opened the scoring just after three minutes and fel- low forward Staci Miller added a second four minutes later. The score was 2-0 at the half. Lacasse added her sec- dond goal at the start of the second half after strong play by Karly Bryson and Miller. Halfway in the period, Miller scored her second from a Lacasse pass. Lacasse completed her hat -trick two minutes before the end of the game, assisted by Miller. Taryn Anstett recorded the shutout. In the second game, the Panthers played Goderich and the final result was 0-0 with both teams having chances to win. Anstett again recorded the shutout and made some excellent saves backed up by a strong defence led by Keri Reschke, Hodgert and Marlee Heywood. This left Goderich and South Huron on top of the standings with an equal record. The Panthers travelled to Waterloo on Saturday where they played three full length games against top opposition and showed great improvement in the past two weeks. In the first game, South Huron played St. Johns Kilmarnock to a 0-0 tie, which was an improvement since the same team defeated them 5-0 two weeks ago. In the second game, the Panthers played Waterloo Oxford and again played with enthusiasm, going down 1-0 before tying with a goal with interpassing by Sandra Gregus, Melissa Cronyn, Jaylene Coates, Miller and final- ly Lacasse poking the ball home. The game ended with Waterloo scoring a win- ner with only two min- utes remaining in the game, where a draw would have been a justi- fied result. In the final game, the girls went down quickly to Notre Dame from Burlington, but battled strongly and had good chances to tie. Midway through the half, Notre Dame put the game out of reach even though the Panthers fought for every ball. The final score was 2- 0. Panther's coach Jim Workman said overall this was a worthwhile tournament as it proved to the girls they could play with the best in the province.
