years.
Current exec-

Bruce Shaw
spoke of the
roots of the
organization,
explaining
that, "In the
mid -sixties, a
group of par-
ents and sever-
al others met
to discuss the
formation of
some sort of
nursery school
for children
who were
developmen-
tally delayed.
Those working
behind the
scenes were
parents Ivan
Sharrow,
Nonie
Hemingway,
Case Van Raay
and Walter

The first board of directors

Community Living - South
Huron was the 111th organiza-

assisting parents with develop-
mentally challenged children,
Shaw said.
"Two schools were in opera-
tion — one in Grand Bend and
the other at McCurdy (Huron
Park). A teacher was found,
Ella Morlock, who looked after
four children. Whatever pay
she received, she received it
from parents and fundraising
activities of the new organiza-
tion until 1970 when the Huron
County Board of Education took
over administration of the
school.
"It moved a total of seven
times in its history before one
school was firmly established in
1982 at McCurdy Public School
in Huron Park. In 1984, the
age-appropriate children
moved to South Huron District
High School in Exeter to
become `students.'
Eventually, Community Living
moved to Dashwood when
Dashwood Industries sold the
