By Pat Bolen
TIMES ADVOCATE STAFF
PORT BLAKE — Huron County will be a centre of
excellence for water quality research under new fund-
ing announced July 25 in London, says Jim Fergusson,
chairperson of the board of management of the Lake
Huron Primary Water Supply System (LHPWSS).
The system services the communities of London,
Lambton Shores, North Middlesex, South Huron,
Bluewater, Middlesex Centre, Lucan-Biddulph and
Strathroy-Caradoc from the water treatment plant in
Port Blake.
The funding announcement from Building Canada for
the Huron Elgin London Project (HELP) is a $150 -million
grant intended to secure and improve the water supply
for London and 12 neighbouring municipalities that
draw water from lakes Huron and Erie.
The project will be implemented in phases over the
next 20 years at an estimated cost of approximately
$350 million
In early 2004 London and the Elgin Area Primary
Water Supply System and the LHPWSS entered into a
partnership to explore, develop and deliver a strategic,
long-term infrastructure program that would ensure a
sustainable high quality water supply for the region
while protecting the natural environment and conserv-
ing energy.
HELP Clean Water is a strategic, multi-year infrastruc-
ture program designed to benefit the entire region envi-
ronmentally and economically over the next 30-50
years.

HENSALL — The organizer of the first Sausage and Blues Fest
describes last Saturday's event at the Hensall Community Centre as
a success.
While the amount raised wasn't known as the Times -Advocate was
going to press, organizer Sandy Ingram said the evening went well
and was attended by about 250 people.
All money raised will go to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and
Minor Hockey. Ingram, a stroke survivor, said he chose the two
organizations because his family has a history of stroke and heart
attacks and he and many of his family members grew up playing
minor hockey in Hensall. He said many small communities are strug-
gling and organizations like Minor Hockey always need help.
Featured Saturday night were performances by the Tom Lockwood
Band, the Andrew Parr and Ronnie Fray, all of whom played for
reduced fees, Ingram said.
"It was very, very entertaining," he said. "The bands did a great
job."
The other portion of the night was the naming of the best sausage
