Students of the month
Monthly winners — South Huron District High School recently handed out Student of the
Month awards for March and April.Andrew Speir, second from left, was April's winner, for making
an extra effort in homework resulting in growth and improvement in grades as well as for taking
initiative, demonstrating responsibility and performing consistently well in all aspects of high

Catholic Education Week —The Huron -Perth Catholic District School
Board celebrated Catholic Education Week April 27 to May 2 by participating
in a project,"StuffThat Bus:' which allowed staff and students to come
together, participating in a food drive supporting the local St.Vincent de Paul

Bingo and silent auction for St. Boniface May 9

ZURICH CORRESPONDENT
ZURICH - A lovely 50th wedding anniversary celebra-
tion was held for Steve and Pat Meidinger on Sun.,
May 4 that began with mass at St. Boniface Church by
Fr. Peter Poel with their five children and spouses
attending along with 13 grandchildren coming from
various places.
Family members, relatives and friends were invited
to the Zurich complex afterwards for a catered meal
followed by an open house with music by Rural Roots.
A Buck and Doe will be held for Mike Fisher and Kim
Hulley on Sat., May 10 at the complex. Mike is the son
of Rick Fisher, Zurich. The couple are getting married
in August.
A surprise party was held for Larry and Charmaine
Keller of RR3 Zurich on Saturday night in Dublin. The
couple were celebrating their upcoming 25th anniver-
sary as well as their 50th birthdays.
Congratulations to Pat and Connie Masse, Dashwood
who celebrated their 25th anniversary on Sat., May 3
at the Dashwood Community Center with family, rela-
tives and friends.
The Muffin Time and Coffee Hour held at the Zurich
United Church is finished and will resume in the fall.
The weekly event raised money for various charities.
Scouts
Ten Scouts and eight leaders spent the weekend at
Algonquin Park doing various outdoor activities to pass
their badges.
The dinner/drama held at the Zurich Public School
gym last Saturday was well attended with the '50s
theme "Return of Rock N Roley High School Reunion"
drama and a delicious dinner It was a fun evening
POLICE BRIEF
LAMBTON — On May 5 a 69 -year-old Port Franks
resident reported a possible cougar sighting on Patrick
Street in Port Franks According to the witness at
approximately 7:45 p.m. he was working on his trailer
in his driveway. At that time, he heard some rustling in
some bushes about 20 feet away. When he went to
investigate, he witnessed a large cat walk out of the
bushes and cross the laneway into another bush area.
He then lost sight of the animal. The cat was described
as two tone brown, light brown colour on top and a
darker brown on the belly. The cat stood approximately
14-18 inches tall and was about three feet in length.
The animal's head was described as being large with
longer fur. The man indicated that he was sure it was a
cat but had never seen one that large before. The ani-
mal was not aggressive and briefly looked at the man
before walking away. OPP have contacted the Ministry
of Natural Resources regarding the sighting.

Jeff and Rosie Rothenberg and Steve and Patty
Geoffrey of Zurich along with Joe and Sandy Overholt
of London recently enjoyed a nice warm week in
Kissimmee, Florida (near Orlando).
Nursery school open house
The Bean Sprouts Nursery School is having an open
house at the Hay Township Hall on June 4, 5, and 6
from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each day. Moms are wel-
come to come out with their pre-school age children to
meet the caregivers etc. for more information phone

Fundraiser plant sale
A perennial plant sale will be held at the Zurich
Mennonite Church on Sat., May 10 outside in the park-
ing lot from 8 a.m. to noon. Proceeds go towards the
Heart to Heart ministry for women. If you would like
to donate your extra perennials for this fundraiser
please drop them off the night before or call Jenn
Ramer 236-7823.
After nearly 20 years of service, a friendly face will
be gone from the local municipal
office in Zurich. Cindy Denomme
has taken the position of Deputy
Clerk with the Municipality of
Central Huron. Their office is locat-
ed in Clinton. We will miss Cindy's
smiling face and wish her all the
best in her new job!

party was held for Sharen
Schroeder, Zurich. On Fri., April 25
a limo arrived at the post -office in
Dashwood on Sharen's last day of
work. Her husband Ron along with
two daughters Vicki and Mike

gathered at the Rader residence in Dashwood and
later they enjoyed supper at the Schroeder home.
Reminder
Zurich's large garbage pick-up has been scheduled
for Mon., May 26 in the morning. This is a great
opportunity to get rid of the things you don't want any-
more.
St. Boniface School Bingo and Silent Auction will be
held at the Zurich Complex on Fri., May 9 from 7 p.m.
to 9 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is wel-
come.
