INGERSOLL — On Nov. 18, the South
Huron District High School junior boys
volleyball team won silver in the WOS-
SAA "AA" tournament in Ingersoll
which pitted the top two teams from
Huron -Perth and the
Thames Valley Regional
Association.
As the first seeded "AA"
team from Huron -Perth,
the Panthers were first up
against the number two
seed Central Elgin from
St. Thomas.
South Huron started
slowly, losing the first set
then rallying back to win
the next three in close sets to advance
to the gold medal final against host
Ingersoll.
Ingersoll had defeated the second
seeded team from F.E. Madill in three
straight sets.
The scene was set for a tough final
and the Panther boys knew they faced
a well -organized defence from the
Ingersoll squad.
Sure enough, Ingersoll came out
swinging and the Panthers found
themselves fighting for each point.
The first two sets were close but in
the end, Ingersoll captured the gold in
three straight sets.
So the Panther boys capped off a
great season with a silver medal from
WOSSAA.
Coach Carleen Hone thanks the
Grade 10 players who are moving on,
especially co -captain and setter Corey
Smith for his great lead-
ership all season.
Hone said Smith worked
hard on the court and
was always a positive role
model for his team mates.
She also gave kudos to
co -captain and middle
hitter Scott Overholt for
his smart plays at the net.
"Cody Lammie, our
other setter and right side
hitter was always enthusiastic and
had some big kills in the front row,"
said Hone.
"Our other middle hitter, Mitch
Foxton was a strong presence at the
net as were left side hitters Scott and
Steve Gregus.
"Steve Morgan is also to be com-
mended for his finesse plays at the net
and his great digs in the back row."
"Well done, guys!" said Hone.
She also thanks newcomers Rich
Johns, Tim Lightfoot, Tyler Cooper,
Bart Rynen, Andrew Gill, Marc
Metzger, Andrew Pache and Austin
Penhale for their unflagging support
this season.
