Huron County Plowing Match celebrates 80 years

Queen of the Furrow —The 2007 Huron County Plowing Match was held last
Thursday and Friday at the home of Bob and Carol Leeming in Huron East.
Thursday was junior day, featuring the junior match and the princess contest,
while Friday featured tractor and horse plowing,the Queen of the Furrow compe-
tition and the barbecue dinner.Above left, Margaret Vincent, 18, ofWingham was
crowned Queen of the Furrow for 2007-08.Vincent also won best plowmanship
in the Queen's Plowing Division.With her is last year's Queen, Mallory Kernighan.

Former Queens — Attending the Huron County Plowing Match last Friday

Paul Betties Memorial Challenge —Above, Municipality of South Huron
road superintendent Ken Bettles competes in a plowing match named after his
late father, Paul Bettles. Below, there were many former Queens of the Furrow on
hand at last week's plowing match, including, from left, sisters Amy Beccario (1964-
65-66), Bonnie Fortune (1967) and Anne Milton (1974 and 1978).
