Crediton jr./int. fastball team ends season
Crediton fastball team ends successful season -The Crediton jr./int. fastball team ended a successful
season on the weekend. The team bowed out of their playoff round earlier than they had hoped but still should
be commended for a superior season. The team won the 1 6 -team Woodstock tourney and ended up second in
their I 4 -team league play. Shown above, left to right, coach Tammy Preszcator,Amber Preszcator, Carrie Dixon,

LONDON - The Crediton jrhnt. fastball team's bats
came up flat at their year-end tourney losing to
Otterville 7-6 and Oakridge 3-0.
A wet weekend found the squad travelling to London
on Friday night and early Saturday morning to only be
sent home due to rain. Sunday morning, the team again
headed down for an 8 a.m. start but came up short 7-6
in the five -inning game against Otterville.
Amber Preszcator and Kathy Conlin pounded out a
triple apiece with long doubles from Kerri Fulton and
Kathy Glen. Single hits came from the bats of Megan
Preszcator, Angie Gould, Marianne Scott and Jessica
Davies. Crediton's bats came alive in the fifth inning but
ended the game with the tieing run on third.
Carrie Dixon started the game with relief from
Marianne Scott. Both pitchers struck out three batters
apiece.
Crediton 0 vs Oakridge 3
Another slow start and very quiet bats found Crediton
behind 1-0 at the bottom of the first. With only a five -
inning game again, the local girls could not seem to
rally back.
Amber Preszcator was the only Crediton player to
reach base pounding out a triple in the first inning
Strong defensive plays by the whole team curtailed
Oakridge's attack but with a lack of its own offence,
Crediton ended the game on the losing side.
Marianne Scott pitched strongly for Crediton notching
one strikeout.
The team would like to acknowledge all the support
from fans this year. It was a real pleasure to see so
many spectators drive into the park on Tuesday
evenings to watch the games. Hearing the complimen-
tary remarks about the players' skills and sportsman-
ship made the battles worthwhile. Special thanks to
Robert Brown for his season -long support (even travel-
ling to the playoffs to only be turned away due to wet
weather). Thanks to Jim Dixon for his `secret teeter'
cream and to Jordan Slaght and Tyler McDonald for
their quick ball retrieval skills.
The team invites everyone back next season for some
more great fastball action.
Probus enjoys local man's play at Blyth Festival
EXETER — Paul Ciufo-playwright came to our meet-
ing and shared with us his passion for writing and how
it began for him as a child and increasingly became
something he had to do. Having a regular paying job
like most of us he writes in his spare time. It took nine
years to finish "REVEREND JONAH" He told us that
some of the lines and/or characters in the play grew out
of events or conversations that he had over the years
with friends, family or anyone he met along the way.
Paul is a very likeable young man and I think all of us
at Probus got caught up in his enthusiasm. We had to
shorten our many questions or we would have missed
the play. Lunch was served by the Legion Ladies of
Blyth Legion and many agreed that it was the best lunch
they have had. On to the play -the play was a play that
expected some controversy because of the content which
was to do with the United Church (as well as other
denominations) as to their acceptance of gay people in
the church. The play also brought forward how some
churches have members that dominate because of their
position or the amount of dollars they contribute.
I felt that the play was an excellent one, very well
done and was enjoyed by everyone in the audience. Yes,
there were issues for some to question but there was
also humor, joy, and sadness for some that touched all
your emotions. The cast received a standing ovation.
We then were allowed to sit in on a question period with
some of the cast and this was also
enlightening.
After this was over, Don
UCW will meet Sept. 11

THAMES ROAD CORRESPONDENT
THAMES ROAD - Some 30
ladies gathered in the church
basement on Thursday
evening to honour Lori
Richardson bride -elect of
September. The basement
was decorated with pretty
coloured
streamers,
pretty delicate -
made flowers and two pretty
bouquets of lilies and green-
ery.
Alma Ballantyne played sev-
eral pieces on the piano Ain't
She Sweet Forever and Ever
and I'm In Love With You.
Elda Riehl Brought Lori to the
front to the platform, her
mother Janis Richardson, her
sister Erin Regier, her cousin
Lesley Baxter and the
groom's mother Mrs. Cardno
were all on the platform with
Lori.
Marilyn Vandenbussche
played a number on the piano
and then she sang Let It Be
Me accompanied by Alma
Ballantyne.
Anne Kernick and Marilyn
Vandenbussche conducted a
couple of contests. Marilyn
Vandenbussche read a nicely
worded address prepared by
Jean Hodgert. Alana Hodgert
and Laurel Miner carried the
many useful
and beautiful
gifts to Lori.
After opening the gifts Lori
replied. All joined in singing
For She's A Jolly Good Fellow.
Delicious desserts and bever-
ages were partaken of which
brought a very enjoyable
evening to a close.

lunch with her grandparents
Bill and Rhoda Rohde on
Thursday.
Quite a number of relatives
attended the funeral of the
late Lorene Hamilton at L.A.
Ball Funeral Home St. Marys
on Friday. Sympathy is
extended to them.
McCaffrey had arranged a full back stage tour of all of
the Blyth facilities. For most of us, myself included this
was a first. We were all in awe of the amount of the
extras. The make up room, design, props & workshops
for building, the storage for the props, extra rehearsal
rooms, lighting and sound room and the administration
offices. It was amazing to realize that the play we see on
stage is really only a part of what goes on for many
months before hand in order to be a success.
I'm sure all of the Probus members who went to this
event were happy to have had the opportunity to enjoy
the experience.
