Taylor picks up win in Clinton
CLINTON — Clinton resident Paul
Taylor had a successful afternoon
at the office on Sunday, winning
one two-year-old pacing filly
Grassroots division at Clinton
Raceway and finishing second in
another.
Taylor harnessed Tennessee
Starlit in the sixth of seven $15,168
Grassroots divisions on the Sunday
matinee and the Mach Three
daughter delivered a gritty perfor-
mance to claim a one length victo-
ry.
In rein to Trevor Henry,
Tennessee Starlet sat in the middle
of the pack through the early going,
then clawed her way up the outside
to reel in pacesetter Slaley and
earn her second straight victory for
owners Glenview Livestock Ltd. of
Wallenstein.
Stonebridge Beauty and fan
favourite Kingfishers Beauty
rounded out the top three in the
ninth race.
One race before Tennessee Starlit
appeared in the Clinton winner's
circle, Henry guided Taylor trainee
Blinker Hanover to a second -place
finish behind Josie Wales.
In spite of starting from the out-
side Post 7, Josie Wales controlled
the race from start to fmish, cruis-
ing home a two and three-quarter
length winner. Henry and Blinker
Hanover were second, edging out
the fast closing Ridge Road Emma.
Trainer -driver Joe Hudon of
Acton and Jeffrey Stober of Toronto
bred and own Josie Wales, who
was making her lifetime debut in
Sunday's Grassroots contest.
Mosquitoes reach final
KOMOKA — What
a weekend it was
for the Mosquito II
baseball team from
Exeter as they
fought valiantly to
reach the final
game of the sea-
son's champi-
onship tournament
before losing.
Action began
Aug. 9 with Exeter,
Komoka, Ilderton,
Parkhill, Strathroy
and Lucan in the
Komoka hosted
tournament.
In the opening
game Exeter faced
Parkhill and bat-
tled to a tie in reg-
ulation innings.
Exeter's bats
brought in six runs
in the final inning
while holding
Parkhill scoreless.
A final score of 9-
6 gave Exeter one
win under their
belt.
Back Friday night
for game two the
Exeter squad beat
Komoka 15 to 12.
Saturday's game
was critical as the
winner would skip
the remainder of
Saturday's action
and advance to the
championship
game on Sunday.
Facing the strong
Ilderton team,
Exeter won the
game 5-3 in what
was the best ball
game of the entire
tournament.
Tournament finalists —The Exeter Mosquitoes made it to
the finals of the championship tournament in Komoka on the
weekend but fell just short. Back from left are: Ed Willis, Ray
Regier and Steve Johns. Middle: senior rookie Dan Allen,
McCallum Bourne, Mitchell Webster, Denver Homuth, Drew
Johns and senior rookie Lucas Toornstra. Front: Dayne Case,
Brayden Regier and Brandon Willis. Missing: Matthew Knight-
Bedour and Brett Reid. (photo/submitted)
Back for day
four, Exeter was
the only undefeat-
ed team.
In double knock-
out play Ilderton
had to win twice to
beat the Exeter
team.
With only seven
of their regular
players available
for Sunday, Exeter
used senior rookie
players Dan Allen
and Lucas
Toornstra.
Unfortunately,
Exeter ran out of
steam against an
Ilderton team with
more players.
Exeter Mosquito
II players Drew
Johns, Denver
Homuth, Brayden
Regier, Brandon
Willis, Brett Reid,
Matthew Knight-
Bedour, Dayne
Case, McCallum
Bourne and
Mitchell Webster
were coached by
Dave Reid, Ed
Willis, Ray Regier,
Jenn Case and
Steve Johns.
