Fury edged
EXETER — The Exeter Fury
continued to struggle Sunday
in Delhi losing 3-2 to the
Royals.
The first half was played
evenly with neither team gain-
ing many scoring chances for
the first 30 minutes.
Delhi got on the board first
on a good through ball that
sent one of their strikers in on
a breakaway.
Fury keeper Ryan Masse had
no chance as the striker beat
him cleanly for a 1-0 lead.
Pete McAllister had a great
chance from inside the box but
was tackled just before he got
the shot off.
The Fury, however, did tie
the game up before the half
when Tyler Knip headed a
loose ball off the post and into
the net to make the score 1-1.
The goal occurred after a
cross from Ryan Ralph was
bobbled by the Delhi keeper
allowing Knip to finish the
play.
The Fury suffered an unfor-
tunate break early in the sec-
ond half when an offside play
was undetected by the referee
allowing Delhi to take the lead
after another breakaway.
Trailing 2-1, Exeter began to
push for the equalizer but
their efforts backfired when
the ball was turned over
resulting in an odd -man rush
towards the Fury net.
One of the Royals players
fired a shot that rang off the
post and landed on the foot of
another Delhi player who
faced an empty net and made
no mistake to increase the
Fury deficit to two goals.
Exeter continued to press
and this time their efforts paid
off on another Ralph cross.
The well-placed ball found
McAllister whose headball
went over the keeper and into
the back of the net to make the
score 3-2 with 10 minutes
remaining.
The Delhi defense shut down
the Exeter attack the rest of
the way to finish off the victo-
ry.
"We played a good game but
a couple of bad breaks ended
up hurting us," stated team
spokesperson Shawn McFalls.
"Geoff Hall was solid in his
return from an ankle injury
sustained in May and it was
good to have him back in the
lineup," McFalls added.
The next action for the Fury
is Aug. 22 at home against
America and Aug. 26 in
London against the Renegades.
