citizens alert
OPP
GRAND BEND — Lambton OPP
have arrested and charged a 24 -
year -old London man after they
were alerted by citizens in Grand
Bend of a suspected drunk driver. It

cer patrolling the village, stopped
the suspect's vehicle a short time
later. A roadside breath demand
was made of the male driver. The
result of that test indicated a "Fail".
Subsequent breath tests showed
that the 24 -year-old London man
was almost two times the legal limit.
He will appear in Sarnia Court Sept.
10, facing a charge of being over the
legal limit.

We cook a lot of chicken on the barbecue at this
time of year. Two bacteria associated with chicken
are Camplobacter and Salmonella and they can be
very deadly. Ensure the packaging is intact on
purchase and keep these juices away from other
foods. Also, wash your hands thoroughly after preparing chicken for
cooking. And be sure it's cooked well before serving.
Eating fresh garlic cloves provide the best concentration of one of the
principal active ingredients, alliin, which converts to allicin when the
clove is broken up or crushed. If you can't tolerate the fresh garlic, look
for supplements with at least 1.3 per cent alliin on the label.
Do you know what your blood pressure is? New Canadian
guidelines on hypertension say that one in five Canadians has high-
normal blood pressure which is defined as 130/85 to 139/89. If you
are overweight and have high-normal blood pressure, lose weight,
exercise more and reduce your salt intake. If you dont know your
blood pressure, get it checked soon.
If ASA (Aspirin and other brands) were discovered today, it probably
would be classed as a prescription -only drug. Its use in the prevention
of cardiac disease is quite common. A dose of 81 mg daily is as
effective as a 325mg dose but the side effects are fewer. If your doctor
suggests this produce for you, choose the one with the enteric coating
on it. It's easier on the stomach.
