MOUNT CARMEL — About 1,000 family
and friends attended the Monday morning
funeral of Bill and Helene Regier, found
slain July 23 in their Bronson Line home.
Bill, 72, and his wife of over 50 years,
Helene, 73, were laid to rest at Our Lady
of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church.
Police continue their search for prime
suspect Jesse Norman Imeson, 22, of
Windsor, who is also suspected in the
murder of Windsor bartender Carlos
Rivera.
Mourners filled the church Monday while
hundreds more sat outside to listen to the
service led by Rev. Ray Lawhead.
Throughout the service, Bill and Helene
were remembered for their devotion to
their family, their church and their com-
munity.
Three of the couple's 16 grandchildren
read an emotional statement, finding some
solace in the fact their grandparents spent
their final moments together.
They were remembered for their gen-
erosity and were described as "always
Helene and Bill Regier
smiling."
Granddaughter Nikki Denomy recalled
her grandparents' love of watching the
sunset and she described her grandmoth-
er's love of shopping, during which her
grandfather would patiently wait and
make new acquaintances in the mall.
"We will bind together as a family to try
to understand this tragic loss," Denomy
said, adding her grandparents are now "in
paradise together."
Denomy added Bill and Helene were
devoted to Mount Carmel and the church's
ongoing renovations were "dear to their
hearts."
Rev. Lawhead said the only response to
the "horrendous" and "evil" act is love.
Describing their devotion to the church
and community, Lawhead said Bill and
Helene were an example for the whole
community and the community has gath-
ered in spirit.
In addition to their 16 grandchildren, Bill
and Helene had six children and five
great-grandchildren.
Visitations for Bill and Helene were held
Sunday afternoon and evening at T. Harry
Hoffman and Sons Funeral Home in
Dashwood. Prayers by the Catholic
Women's League and a Knights of
Columbus service were also held.
Tuesday afternoon after the Times -
Advocate went to press, family and friends
were to put straw in at the Regier farm in
Bill's memory.
