Lucan United joins with Granton this Sunday

GRANTON -The annual
fishing derby was hosted on
Sun., July 8 at the pond of
Lucille Evans on Highway 7
near Edgewood for Granton's
Wesley United Church. Pastor
Paul Vollick led the service
but the fishing was not very
extensive due to a shortage of
children. However, a good
crowd of adults enjoyed the
outdoor atmosphere.
Regular services will
resume at St. Paul's Anglican
Church in Kirkton on the sec-
ond Sunday of August.
In the meantime, the con-
gregation is invited to attend
St. James Anglican Church in
St. Marys on Sundays at 11
a.m.
Paul Iarding, formerly of
Granton and Jason Schubert
of Arva, both Medway High
School graduates who have
become accomplished chefs,
opened their restaurant 'Only
on King' in London recently.
Congratulations and all the

Jim and Willa Harding and
family entertained at a party
to celebrate the upcoming
marriage of their daughter
Katherine Harding and Tim
O'Neill, both of Edmonton.
Due to the uncertain weather
it was held at the Granton
park pavilion on Sat., July 14.

United Church on Sun., July
15, Rev. Kathy Wreford and
Lucan United Church congre-
gation worshiped together.
Rev. Wreford lit the Christ
candle and led the service.
Next Sun., July 22, Lucan
United will again jointly wor-
ship with Granton -Wesley.
At St. Paul's Anglican
Church in Kirkton, regular
services will commence the
second Sunday in August.
Rev. Dalice Sim is con-
valescing following a
knee operation and is
also on vacation.
WI Rally

Middlesex County
Women's Institute
Rally was held at the
Thorndale Community
Centre on Tues., July
10, hosted by
Middlesex East dis-
trict.
The WI scholarship
was presented by
Joan Whitlock to
Jessica Van Hie,
daughter of Robert
and Henrietta of RR2
Ailsa Craig. Jessica
was a very worthy
recipient having com-
pleted 32 4-H projects
as well as being
involved in school,
POLICE BRIEFS
Driver alive after collision
SOUTH HURON — Two SeaDoos were being oper-
ated off the shores of Port Blake in South Huron
June 23. Both were travelling in the same direction.
One being operated by a 20 -year-old female from
Kitchener was traveling northbound approximately
50 metres from shore. The second SeaDoo, also trav-
elling northbound was following and crossing back
and forth in front of the female operator of the other
SeaDoo when it crossed too close and the female
operator collided with this SeaDoo causing both peo-
ple to fall off. The male driver, a 29 -year-old of
Cambridge, suffered serious injuries. Another nearby
SeaDoo operator was able to render assistance, as
were two witnesses from shore. The male driver was
transported to South Huron Hospital where he was
later released after being treated for non -life threat-
ening injuries. Huron OPP are still investigating the
incident.
