women's Institute on the road
GRAND BEND — The Grand Bend Women's
Institute members were guests of the
Warwick Women's Institute June 18, watch-
ing a presentation concerning the Stephen
Lewis Project and the Go Go Grannies, given
by Warwick Women's Institute.
Many grandmothers in Africa are raising
grandchildren. The parents of these children
are suffering from AIDS or have died because
of the disease. The grandmothers need help
financially to educate and clothe these chil-
dren.
The Stephen Lewis Project is aided by the
Women's Institute.
A discussion concerning the work of the
Women's Institutes was conducted with input
from Kerwood, Grand Bend and Warwick.
Programming, community involvement and
membership were the focal points.
On June 21, 17 members of the Grand Bend
Institute also went on a field trip to New
Hamburg.
The first stop was at Oak Grove Cheese
Factory, followed by a stop in the downtown
area for shopping and lunch.
The next visit was a tour of 10,000 Villages,
non-profit organization sponsored by the
Mennonite Church.
They sponsor crafts from 33 Third World
nations.
