Many businesses had booths set up, offering products and services, many including draws for prizes throughout the day.Above left is Ann Duskocy, JackYoungson, Lois Hodgins, Marj Love and Jim Love, pro- viding entertainment for the many faces in the crowd. (photo/Kaitie Jinks) Beef supper in the park on June 21 By Muriel Lewis GRANTON CORRESPONDENT GRANTON- Get well wishes from the community to Elsie Dann Jones who is recovering in University Hospital in London having bro- ken her hip due to a fall. At Granton -Wesley United Church on Sun., June 11, Bev Rabbets of St. Marys led the service in the absence of Pastor Paul Vollick. Destiny Robertson, a weekend visitor with Marion Gott, lit the Christ candle. The lessons were from 1st Chronicles 28 and 1st Peter 2 and the message was entitled "Who are we?" The ministry of music was the anthem "Go Make A Difference." The Vacation Bible Camp is being planned for July 17 to 21. UCW Unit One Granton - Wesley UCW Unit One met at the church on Thurs., June 8 at noon for a potluck lunch with Unit 5 members as vis- itors. President Carolyne Walden wel- comed everyone and opened the meeting, which was followed by a meditation on Father's Day and loving God. She also read a fathers' poem by Helen Steiner Rice. Some upcoming events were announced and discussed and plans made for the next meet- ing on Sept. 14. During the program Doreen McRobert read the article "Identity Crisis" which was a story about twenty dollars. Margaret Spence of Unit 5 also had a reading and Ina Harlton thanked Unit 1 for inviting them. Unit 3 Granton -Wesley UCW Unit 3 members and husbands met on Tuesday evening, June 6 and had a tour of George Burgin's Museum in Kirkton, which had been arranged by Donna Westman and Wilma Dunlop. Later, they returned to Donna Westman's home for their meet- ing when Donna read a poem 'All things old are more beautiful.' The upcoming Beef Supper in the Park on June 21 was dis- cussed as well as other events. Lloyd Mardlin asked the grace and refresh- ments were served by Wilma and hostess GRANTON NEWS Donna. There was no church service as St. Paul's hosted the Blessing of the Fields service with Kirkton and Woodham United Churches at George and Verna Burgin's Museum grounds in Kirkton. Rev. Shannon Tennant and Rev. Dalice Sim led the service. The message was about God's wondrous world. After the Blessing of the Fields, Holy Communion was jointly celebrated. Following the service, a time of fellowship with refreshments in the museum was enjoyed. Clandeboye WI On Wed., June 7, Clandeboye Women's Institute and friends had dinner at noon at the Cosy Restaurant on Hwy. 4. Later they had a tour of Eileen Clark's Iris Gardens on 10 mile Road, Middlesex Centre. A short meeting fol- lowed led by presi- dent Betty McIntyre when Carolyn Hardy gave a reading enti- tled 'My Garden.' Thanks to Lena Hardy who made the arrangements for the outing. Still some tickets left for Varna pork barbecue By Joan Beierling VARNA CORRESPONDENT VARNA - The church service was held in Varna on Sunday with Pastor Elly Van Bergen . The children's time was on "Everyone Loves a Butterfly" and the message on "A Variety of Transducers". Belated birthday wishes were extended to Helen Taylor for June 9. Congrats to Danny Keys whom graduated from a four year Business Program at Wilfred Laurier in Waterloo. He will be attending Western in London in the fall for Teachers College. Hair shaving for Cancer will take place at Holmesville Public School and Leanne and Mike Colclough will be participating. Willi Laurie will also be a participant in one at Colbourne School the same day. Church will be in Goshen next Sun., June 18 for Father's Day and there will be a Special Tribute Service on June 25 at Goshen with special music. There are still some tickets left for the Varna Pork BBQ to be held at the complex on Wed., June 21 from 4:30-7:30 pm. For tickets call 482-9265 or 233-9153. The setup for the BBQ will be Tues., June 20 at 7 p.m. Please bring extra water pitchers, serving spoons, boards, scrub brushes that evening. Be sure to label water pitchers and pans containing donated food. Cut your own pies if possible. Ticket money or any bills would be appreciated on or before set up night. The Goshen UCW meet on June 22 at 8 p.m. at the Goshen Church. Pastor Elly Van Bergen will be officiating at the Bayfield Cemetery Decoration Service at 2 p.m. on June 25. New look in Varna. Did everyone notice the new `Hamlet of Varna' sign at the main intersection? Take note when driving through. Thanks to the Varna Sesquicentennial Committee for this new addition to Varna. A few residents in Varna attend- ed the wedding of Tony Coultis (son of John and Emely) to Amber Dow on Sat., June 11 at the Wesley Willis Church in Clinton with Pastor Elly Van Bergen per- forming the ceremony.
