SHDHS gets excellent track and field results
EXETER —
Members of the South
Huron DHS Panthers
track and field team
turned in some out-
standing perfor-
mances at the Huron
Perth track and field
championships May 9
and 10 at Goderich
DCI.
Of the 44 athletes
who took part, 32
qualified to partici-
pate, or to be alter-
nates at the WOSSAA
championships at TD
Waterhouse stadium
May 16 and 17.
Top qualifiers for
WOSSAA included
Katie Anderson who
finished first in the
800 metre, the 1500
metre and 3000
metre for Junior Girls.
Right behind
Anderson was Abby
Oke who was second
in both the 1500 and
3000 metre races and
fourth in the 800
metre race.
Reid Halpenny also
garnered a first place
finish in the Senior
Boys 110 metre hur-
dles.
Anderson tied for
top athlete in the
Junior Girls division
with Lauren Thomson
of St. Mary's DCVI.
Anderson and Oke
helped lead South
Huron to a third place
finish in the Junior
Girls' team division.
The Junior Boys'
team also garnered a
top five placing by fin-
ishing fourth in their
division.

Crediton keeps winning streak alive
CREDITON — The
Crediton Laurmart
Juniors/Intermediates kept
their winning streak alive
by winning three more
games over the past
week.
One game was a
real nailbiter with
Kelli Fulton scoring
the winning run in
the eighth inning.
Crediton 8 vs
Dutton 2
A very close game,
with Crediton only
taking a 1-0 lead in
the third was broken
Byron scored two quick
runs in the first inning.
The game remained close
until the fourth inning
when Byron broke the
game open scoring
six runs.
Crediton replied
with a run in the
fifth and then tied
the game in the
seventh to go into
extra innings
In the eighth
inning, Amber
Preszcator started
on second base
(international
rules) and was hit in
by Kelli Fulton who
moved around by a
nicely -placed bunt
by Julie Prout.
Kelli Fulton then
scored on a passed
ball after moving to
third base on a long
fly ball by Angie
Gould.
Gould led her
team at the plate
with three singles
and two long fly sacrifice
hits.
Prout had three singles
including her precise bunt.
Scott pounded out a dou-
ble and single while Cathy
Conlin added two singles.
Mention should also go to
centre fielder Conlin who
had an highly skilled catch
to stop a Byron rally.
Single hits came from the
bats of Megan Preszcator,
Katie Glavin and the tieing
Angie Gould
right
open in the sixth inning
with the home team scoring
five more runs after scor-
ing two in the fourth.
Marianne Scott and
Amber Preszcator led their
team at the plate with
three singles apiece.
Pounding out two hits
were Julie Prout, Cathy
Conlin and Kelli Fulton.
Adding single hits came
from the bats of Megan
Preszcator, Kerri Fulton,
Angie Gould and Carrie
Dixon.
Dixon also pitched a very
strong game notching four
strikeouts.
Crediton 10 vs Byron
Junior 9
An eighth inning win was
a true crowd pleaser when
Crediton defeated Byron by
a score of 10-9 recently.
Crediton took the lead 4-2
in the third inning after
run from a nice placed hit
by Janelle Dykstra.
Dixon was Crediton's
starter with two strikeouts
with superb relief from
Marianne Scott notching
six strikeouts allowing only
one run.
Catcher Julie Prout has
been a true leader this sea-
son leading her pitchers
with the correct pitch and
strike zone.

Dorchester 0
A quick -paced game until
the last two inning when
Crediton scored three runs
apiece was a nice
game to watch.
Crediton played
smart defensively
with perfect pitch-
ing from Dixon
notching four
strikeouts.
Kerri Fulton led
her team at the
plate with a double
Dixon and three singles,
Gould with a double
and two singles and Carie
Pertschy with three nicely
placed hits.
Prout showed her
bunting prowess through-
out the game adding three
singles.
Megan Preszcator added
two singles while single hits
came from the bats of
Scott, Glavin, Amber
Preszcator and Dixon.

the Senior Boys
javelin while Gregus
placed seventh in the
Junior Girls 80 metre
hurdles in a time of
15 seconds.
VanEsbrooke placed
10th in the Senior
Girls long jump with a
leap of 4.5 metres
while Van Osch
placed 10th in the
Junior Boys triple
jump with a jump of
10.74 metres.
Anstett placed sev-
enth in the Junior
Boys shot put with a
throw of 13.41
metres.
In the Junior Boys
high jump, Marsden
placed ninth with a
jump of 1.65 metres
while Oke placed
eighth in the Junior
Girls 3,000 metre in a
time of 12:27.
Mike Vangerwen
finished ninth in the
Midget Boys 300
metre hurdles.
Three athletes also
qualified for the
OFSAA regional track
meet last week in
Kitchener.
Yearly placed fifth in
the Senior Girls high
jump with a jump of
1.5 metres while
Halpenny placed
fourth in the Senior
Boys 100 metre hur-
dles with a time of
15.89 seconds.
Anstett placed sec-
ond, earning a silver
medal with a best
throw in competition
this year of just over
46 metres.
Exeter Karate recently held a grading and several students were suc-
cessful in obtaining their new belts. From left are sensei Trudee
Balsdon, sensei Jeff Balsdon, white to yellow -Janet Dearing, green to
blue -Jennifer Howard, sensei Aaron Daters, green to blue -Kevin
Howard and sensei Don Carey.The club is also proud to announce
Trudee Balsdon was successful in achieving her Shodan (first degree
black belt).The official ceremony will take place June 4 at 6 p.m. at the
Goderich Township Hall in Holmesville. Everyone is welcome to attend
