Responsible for regular beat coverage including police, police board,
court; fire department, hospital board, municipal council, breaking news
stories, and features, as assigned. Must be motivated to initiate and sug-
gest stories on a variety of topics. Knowledge of agriculture and sports an
asset.
Competencies/Skills and Experience:
Must be reliable, able to meet deadlines, and comfortably converse with
people at all levels in the community. A high level of reporting skills (both
interviewing and written) is essential, as well as the ability to proof-read
copy. Must work as an effective team member, willing and able to cover
beats other than one's own during vacation periods; and maintain a
friendly, working relationship with other departments of the newspaper.
Qualifications must include a college diploma or university degree in jour-
nalism. Position offered will be relevant to experience.
