We often hear about people eating huge amounts of grapefruit, celery or hot peppers to help lose weight. These sorts of diets set you up for disappointment. The magic solution to weight loss is a balanced diet and expending more calories than you consume. Simple as that. The polypill is starting to appear on pharmacy shelves. These are tablets or capsules with two or more major drugs in them. One recent example has a cholesterol-lowering drug plus a blood pressure lowering drug combined into one tablet. There will be more to follow. In England, they are studying a mixture of six drugs in one capsule. It's a good idea to do a drug review with your doctor at each visit. Keep a current list of medications with you at all times. These reviews are especially important after a hospital stay. It is also useful to keep a medication diary. Enter information about the drug in the diary and keep track of any side effects you may experience and record how you feel the medication is working. The diary is very helpful when you visit your doctor because it's so difficult to remember everything. As your pharmacist, we'd like to share your medication diary information with us. We can record it on your prescription file for future reference. It helps us to serve you better.
