SOUTH HURON — It was clear right from the
get go that Exeter Ward 2 incumbent Pete
Armstrong would secure a position on council,
having nearly 400 votes more than any other
Ward 2 candidate; but for the second spot on
council, the election race was on Monday night.
Armstrong received 1,215 votes. Cathy Seip
also won with 862 votes, while Wayne DeLuca
wasn't far behind with 854 and Leroy Hoffman
trailed with 601 votes.
"It's a good feeling," said Armstrong after win-
ning the election, but added, although receiving
most of the votes "it doesn't take a big number,"
but "it's nice to know people have confidence in
what you do," something he said "comes from
experience and trust."
Armstrong is beginning his fourth term and is
pleased with the voters' decision on their new
council, which now has two new members,
Exeter Ward 2 Coun. Seip and Usborne Ward 3
Coun. David Frayne.
"We have an excellent mix, an ideal mix. Brand
new people gives opportunity," said Armstrong.
Priorities Armstrong will carry forth into his
next term are, "fmishing up the flood water and
trying to get developed land freed up in the
municipality."
"It was an excellent, clean race," said
Armstrong, adding, "I give the others credit, the
numbers are good."
Cathy Seip secured the other seat in Exeter,
beating candidate Wayne DeLuca by just eight
votes.
"I have mixed emotions about that," said Seip,
"but I'm glad and I hope I can give the people
what they want."
Seip says her main focus is to be available for
the community.

SOUTH HURON — South Huron
voters chose experience in the may-
oral race Monday night as Usborne's
Ken Oke enjoyed a big win over
Exeter's Dean Ducharme to become
the municipality's new mayor.
Oke, a current South Huron coun-
cillor with over 15 years of council
experience, defeated political new-
comer Ducharme with 2,842 votes
compared to Ducharme's 1,095.
"I feel great," Oke said after his
win Monday night. He said the peo-
ple of South Huron have spoken and
sent a clear message they wanted a
positive person, not a negative one.
Oke said he's expecting the people
of South Huron to work with him.
"We're in this together. I'm wanti-
ng a great South Huron."
Oke admitted he wasn't surprised
by the results — "I have a track
record in South Huron. I work for
the people and have their best inter-
ests at heart."
Oke said flood control has to be a
priority for the new council and
South Huron has to pursue a grant
for the $6.2 million sewer project.
Oke said he wants to instill confi-
