Operation Christmas Child helps children
EXETER — The weather outside isn't frightful yet,
but don't let that stop you from humming a holiday
tune and starting a special Christmas list — the one
you'll use to fill shoeboxes with gifts to help the
world's largest Christmas project share joy and hope
with hurting kids around the world.
It's called Operation Christmas Child.
Operation Christmas Child is calling on local kids,
families, churches, businesses, schools, social groups
and civic organizations to join this massive effort to
bring joy and hope to children overseas suffering
from disease, famine, war, terrorism and natural dis-
asters. The shoebox gifts are a simple but powerful
way to offer hope to suffering children in more than
90 countries. In many cases this will be the only gift
they have ever received.
"This is a great opportunity to bring some joy to a
child and involves little time and little expense on our
part," says Pastor Isabelle Gagne of Belongers.
Belongers is the South Huron area Shoebox Gift
Drop Off location located at 63 Main St. in Exeter.
Boxes and promotional materials are available at
Belongers by calling 913-1256.
"This is a great opportunity to rally together as a
community and be able to bless children around the
world with a gift during the Christmas season. For
some children this will be the only gift they receive
all year long," says Pastor David Gagne.

Best Ever Cheeseball
There are always a few things that I like to have on hand
around Christmas. A great cheese ball is one of them. This
particular recipe is one I have used for years and years and it
never disappoints me or my guests! Be sure
to have the ingredients on hand - you can whip it up in a jiffy
if need be. Start your holiday collection of recipes with this
super appetizer!
1 8 oz pkg light cream cheese, softened
1 cup old cheddar cheese shredded
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 small onion chopped fine
1/2 tsp lemon juice
I /8 tsp cayenne pepper
pecans or walnuts, finely chopped to roll in
Mash and mix together the first 7 ingredients. Shape into a
ball. Roll in nuts. Keeps for a week in the fridge or can be
frozen. I often make a double batch and make a number of
small balls to be used at different functions. The cheese ball is
nice rolled in parsley as well. Enjoy.

The Apgar score is a test applied to all
newborns. It measures pulse, respiration, muscle
tone, colour, and reflexes and is a good indicator
of the general health of the new baby. It was first
introduced in 1952.
The word aerobic literally means with air. When
you exercise, it means your heart and lungs are using oxygen
efficiently. This strengthens your cardiovascular system. The key
thing about aerobic exercise is not how hard you exercise but how
long. Check with you doctor before starting on an aerobic exercises
program.
Did you know that our bodies are generally at their physiological
peak at the age of 25? Then it's a slow, downhill slide from there.
Heart function starts to decline, blood vessels narrow, muscle
strength declines and many other body organs don't operate at
peak efficiency. Depressing isn't it? However, we can slot that
decline by appropriate exercise and diet.
Trans fat are those bad fats found in processed and baked foods.
As of December 2005, all food manufacturers have had to declare
trans fat content on their food labels. Because of this, more and
more manufacturers are reformulating their products so they can
put the words "trans fat free" on their labels.
In this fast -paced mechanized, computerized time, it's nice to know
you can drop into your neighbourhood pharmacy and speak to a
pharmacist in person. It's a good feeling for us, too. It makes for
great communication and education.
