Zurich Pee Wees
ZURICH — The Zurich Pee Wee Girls met Hickson
recently in Ontario Rural Softball playdowns.
In the starting series Hickson eliminated Zurich from
future play with two straight wins, 21-6, and 16-1.
Strong pitching from Hickson and walks handed out by
Zurich led the way to the defeats.
But the Zurich team never gave up — Cheryl Regier
led the rally in the first game with a double followed by
singles by Jaemi Douglas and Kristena Hendrick. Jessie
Geoffrey had a double and a home rim to move runs
home.
In Hickson for the second game, Zurich had 15 hits
but was unable to connect them for runs. Hendrick
scored the only run in the second inning on a single to
right field.
In Huron -Perth league play, Zurich travelled to
Exeter July 12 and was defeated 25-14. Walks were a
major part of the ball game. Zurich had six hits includ-
ing singles by Katelyn Schade (two), a double by
Melanie Hunt, a triple by Hendrick and home runs by
Geoffrey and Regier, combined with walks to score
their runs.
Zurich got back on the winning track versus Listowel
2, winning 19-17. Geoffrey started on the mound and
was relieved in the last inning by Schade. Zurich con-
nected for seven hits and received 15 walks. At the
plate, Danielle Daters had two triples, Jenna Beierling a
double, and three singles were hit by Cheryl Regier.
Sebringville came to Zurich July 20 and defeated the
home team 17-9. With timely hits, and strong pitching
the visitors kept ahead of Zurich. Geoffrey started on
the mound, relieved by Becca Skinner and Taelor
Douglas. A rally in the third inning led by Courtney
Campbell's single, followed by singles by Jaemi
Douglas, T. Douglas, Geoffrey, and a triple by Hendrick
brought in five rims to bring the score to 12-8 for the
visitors. Emily Ainslie made it home on a single bunt
attempt with overthrows to score the last Zurich run in
the fifth.
Zurich travelled to Sebringville, July 24 ready to play.
Jessie Geoffrey pitched a strong game relieved by
Skinner for the final two outs in the last inning.
Zurich led the game in the second inning and never
looked back. Walks combined with singles by Geoffrey
(two), Melanie Hunt (one), a double by Kristena
Hendrick and a timely bunt by Brittany Grenier led the
rally. Zurich won 13-7.

big bats of their own.

reached first on a single
hit, was moved to scoring
position with a Kerri
Fulton double and scored
the winning run with a

Monday night's game
against Chippewa again
saw the team neck and
